LINDER ANNOUNCES 65th CO-SPONSOR FOR FAIRTAX BILL

September 19, 2007Contact: Derick Corbett

Washington, D.C. – Congressman John Linder (GA-07) announced today that his revolutionary tax reform legislation, the FairTax, has reached 65 co-sponsors with the addition of Representative Mary Fallin (OK-05). This establishes a new record number of co-sponsors for the FairTax, merely nine months into the 110th Congress.

“We have seen extraordinary traction this year. Grassroots support across the nation is motivating Members to study the FairTax and decide whether they are going to be for the bill or against the bill. I certainly appreciate Representative Fallin’s support, although I cannot take credit for her signature, it was her constituency.”

The FairTax is the most highly co-sponsored piece of tax reform legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, out-numbering its closest competition, the Freedom Flat Tax, by 59 co-sponsors. In fact, the FairTax has more co-sponsors than any other piece of tax reform legislation proposed in over three decades.

“I believe this is just the beginning. I can’t go anywhere anymore without someone asking me how the FairTax is doing. People are paying attention and they are looking for ideas in which to believe. The FairTax is one that really resonates and creates excitement. We are working to reach 100 co-sponsors in the 110th Congress, and once we do that the politicians in Washington will have no choice but to listen. I have said many times, the people are way ahead of the politicians on this issue.”

Congressman Linder also expressed his appreciation to Representative Frank Lucas (OK-03) for being the 64th co-sponsor of H.R. 25, signing on to the bill on September 10, 2007.

Rep. Mary Fallin, Oklahoma

Americans are taxed too much by a tax code that is too complicated. The FairTax bill would reduce the amount of taxes paid by most Americans while simplifying the process. I'm proud to be a cosponsor of this important piece of legislation.

Rep. Frank D. Lucas, Oklahoma

09/10/2007

I have long been a supporter of tax reform and I have worked to provide tax relief, less government regulation and promote fair trade. I want tax rate reductions for every family that pays income taxes.

Obviously the Flat Tax has too little support to be a viable solution.

The Fair Tax bus is rolling down the highway and gaining speed!

In the hands of the Dems, it is nothing more than a VAT. It is a nightmare waiting to happen. Better to go with a flat tax. Yea, I know the dems will screw that up too, but the worst they can do with a flat tax is raise the rates.

Better to go with a flat tax

The Fair Tax is a flat tax but on consumption instead of income. The income tax began as a flat tax on income. When enacted in 1913 it ranged from 1% on the first $20,000 of taxable income and was only 7% on incomes above $500,000. So few people earned more than $500,000 that it was essentially was a flat tax. History has proven creating another flat tax on income will eventually return to the same convoluted and complex morass we have today. More importantly The Fair Tax abolishes the IRS and it's oppressive 67,000+ page tax code.

Boortz and Linder need to hurry the publication of the new FT book. It’s apparently for the dolts who couldn’t understand the first book.

I appreciate your effort to provide the details. Obviously, you have studied this topic quite a bit and your facts are compelling. I do not dispute them. My point is that a consumption based tax under a democrat Congress and White House will prove to be too tempting of a target and will quickly devolve into a VAT system.

In short, great concept, but I don’t trust the liberals to run it fairly when they get into the majority and the White House.

I would prefer to consider those who didn’t buy into the first book body and soul as skeptics with an eye to the reality of the history of the tax code and how the liberals will manipulate it at every turn.

One man’s “dolt” is another man’s pragmatist. Whereas one man’s true believer is another man’s naive dreamer.

Which one will history bear out?

In short, great concept, but I don’t trust the liberals to run it fairly when they get into the majority and the White House.

Absent you offering any alternative the implication is to maintain the status quo. The socialists have been instrumental in expanding the income tax code and have done so because too few people have bothered to take action. Inaction only aids their purpose. The Americans For For Fair Taxation have realized this dangerous concept since 1995. That is now changing with their strong grassroots effort. Those politicians who have signed onto The Fair Tax didn't do so simply out of altruism. They felt pressure from an increasing number of their constituents to either support The Fair Tax or risk losing their jobs at the next elections.

You need only look to the strong grassroots effort this past summer to prevent politicians in support of illegal amnesty to back down and ultimately reject such legislation. The Fair Tax is creating the same grassroots effort.

As English philosopher Edmund Burke said, ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing.’ The socialists are hoping people feel exactly the attitude your statement expresses.

support of illegal amnesty should read support of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Most of the people who don’t understand the Fair Tax, or who argue with it, have never read the first book.
