The websites of CNN and USAToday joined their "Big Three" network brethren in covering the march in Jena, Louisiana to support the so-called Jena 6, while at the same time, either burying mention of the teenager who was beaten by the six high school students, or not mentioning him at all.
CNN.coms report, in which CNN correspondents Susan Roesgen, Tony Harris, Kyra Philips and Eliott McLaughlin were contributors, didnt mention Justin Barker until the twenty-second paragraph of the story.
The teens were initially charged with attempted murder after they allegedly knocked out Justin Barker -- a white classmate -- while stomping and kicking him during a school fight on December 4, 2006.
Barker was taken to a hospital with injuries to both eyes and ears as well as cuts. His right eye had blood clots, said his mother, Kelli Barker.
Before this, the report focused entirely on the planned march in support of the so-called Jena 6.
CNN followed the report on the victim with a statement from the local district attorney in Louisiana.
LaSalle Parish District Attorney Reed Walters urged the world not to forget the victim in the case.
"The injury done to him and threats to his survival have become less than a footnote," Walters said Wednesday.
"This case has not, never has been about race. It's about finding justice for an innocent victim, holding people accountable for their actions. That is what it's about," he said.
USAToday.coms report on the march, written by Marisol Bello, did not mention Justin Barker at all, but focused exclusively on the march and the prosecution of one of the teenagers charged in the beating.

I’ve already been given slack for my comments about this at topix.net on the Los Angeles board. Facts aren’t a racist’s friend.
Six grown teenagers stomping and kicking one is not a “fight”. It’s assault and battery at least, and attempted murder at most, depending on the degree of injury. The “Jena 6” sound like a cowardly bunch of thugs, no matter what the alleged provocation.
Now, with the rally, you have a bunch of busybodies who are saying "Free the Jena 6!" Really? Even though they beat up the guy?
“Ive already been given slack for my comments about this at topix.net
on the Los Angeles board.”
No shock there. A gal who traveled from LA to Jena to “help promote
social justice” got her 30 seconds of fame this morning on CNN.
No mention of the real actual facts of the crime...just many
victim-industry professionals, camp-followers and CNN “journalists”
seem to be the totality of what “Jena” is about now.
(friendly suggestion.....I suspect you meant “flak”, not “slack”)
did CNN or MSNBS even talk about the victim, his injuries, or how at least one of the "children"..yes, one reporter used the word children to describe the thugs...had a nice size criminal portfolio already?....of course not....
What would you expect from the lame stream media? There is no such thing as black on white crime, only white on black....
Not surprising. Let Maxine and Conyers and the other hate mongers require the local DA to go up and testify before Congress. I hope he does, and brings big photographs of the victim.
I was surprised some of the written “news” stories actually mention the rallies are in support of these kids who attacked another student. Right there in the first paragraph they are saying these moron protesters are *defending* known violent criminals. That says it all.
Was the white boy a lacrosse player?
I guess I should not hold my breath waiting for the “hate crimes” charges to be filed against the “Jena 6.”
Not that they should since no such thing should exist; I am just saying.
Attempted murder and a hate crime to boot. Too bad the kid didn’t pull a Glock and kill all 6 of his cowardly attackers.
Whites are projected to become less than a majority. As that happens, whites are going to start reacting to all the laws, protests, etc designed to aid blacks but not whites. As hispanic numbers increase, and blacks realize the democrats abandoned blacks to bring in a larger group of voters, tensions will increase.
This is all why a race-blind society was needed, but the liberals have adopted a radical racial approach. If you look into the racial ideology of most of these liberal groups, they support the belief that whites are inherently racist and that racial conflict must continue forever.
White folks need to march for their civil rights - we have none, it seems.
There were no demonstrations when a punter Mitch Cozad was charged with attempted murder of his rival Mendoza (who was not nearly as seriously hurt as the Jenna victim) even though the consensus was that the DA overcharged. IIRC, the jury found him guilty of a lesser charge.
For later

JENA, La. Thousands of chanting demonstrators filled the streets of this little Louisiana town Thursday in support of six black teenagers initially charged with attempted murder in the beating of a white classmate.
The crowd broke into chants of “Free the Jena Six” as the Rev. Al Sharpton arrived at the local courthouse with family members of the jailed teens.
Martin Luther King III, son of the slain civil rights leader, said the scene was reminiscent of earlier civil rights struggles. He said punishment of some sort may be in order for the six defendants, but “the justice system isn’t applied the same to all crimes and all people.”

Red Cross officials manned first aid stations near the local courthouse and had water and snacks available. Portable toilets and flashing street signs to aid in traffic direction were in place. At the courthouse, troopers chatted amiably with each other and with demonstrators who began showing up well before dawn.
