I can’t believe that people are dissing Tony Snow like this. Regardless of your views on immigration, Tony is a wonderful person and doesn’t deserve to be treated with language such as some of the posters in this thread have used.

May God bless Tony, and may God bless you.

Tony Snow personally may be a nice guy, and he has a big following here at Free Republic. And we all pray for his recovery from cancer.

But he is typical of that inside-the-Beltway, detached-from-real-America crowd that runs the government, the media, and big corporations. For the most part they live in gated communities and their daily interactions are with fellow elitists, not real people. They may claim they are one of us because of some relatively insignificant contact like their kid plays on the Little League team or they fill up their tank at the local gas station. But overwhelmingly their world is the company of fellow elites.

For Tony illegal immigration is not about something that starts out with breaking a law, and that continues with overcrowded homes, off-the-books and avoid-the-tax-rolls employment, depletion of social and emegency services, increased crime, and lower quality of life. No, for Tony and the amnesty and open borders/cheap labor set it is some viewgraphs about the global economy and lowered costs of production and increased business profits and record stock market advances.

Nothing summed it up better than Tony’s comment on his old radio call-in show when he berated a caller with a terse comment “Would you rather pay $50,000 for your remodeling job or $30,000?”

No further thought about the citizen-tradesmen who were put out of a job by cheap illegal labor, the taxes not paid, the benefits not covered, the industry wage scales lowered, the taxpayer-funded social services expended, the neighborhoods devalued - no, not a mention of those things.

Perhaps someday, when Tony and his ilk’s policies make Spanish the predominant language, he will find his speaking and writing jobs replaced by a glib Antonio Nieve who will work a lot cheaper than him.

Tony quit a $160,000 a year job “to make more money for his family.” Too bad those $40,000 a year carpenters and painters and drywallers no longer have any job to go back to, let alone a more lucrative job spouting and writing words. Their families have lost favor with the American elites who now prefer the wonderful “family values” of the illegals.

What a (formerly) great country.

We must have different Bibles. Here is one version although the word "alien" is replaced by "sojourner" in other versions.

Leviticus 19:33-34 (New International Version) New International Version (NIV)

33 " 'When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. 34 The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the LORD your God

Tony is a good man.

Just some of the ridiculous and incredible things he said really suck and are fundamentally unpatriotic. This is serious business we are talking about. The future of our country depends on it.

New American Standard: 33: When a stranger resides with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. 34: The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as the native among you and you shall love him as yourself; for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

Again, the LEGAL IMMIGRANT is the stranger to be kind to, NOT the law breaking immigrant. I do not think that God leads Mexicans, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, and Communists to America as the “promised land”.

If you are going to use the bible to support your claims, you had better make sure that you are in context and are not cherry-picking your verses:

Leviticus 18:26 (King James Version)
Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you

What breathtaking ugliness on this thread! It looks like something that came off DU. People, please have a little humility and class. Tony Snow is a good man, who happens to disagree with many of us on this issue. There is nothing wrong with having a different opinion. Good grief.

OPINION??? I am not in for 'ugliness' but government is we the people and it is not the RIGHT of a political, economic, educational, and religious class to dictate the complete degradation of this nation of LAWs by ignoring them.

Tony and the President are just plain WRONG about ignoring the LAW, until and unless that law has been repealed no matter what their global intent dreams are. They are setting a precedence of selective enforcement and make the Rule of LAW a mockery. I do not care how many illegals are required to maintain that social security program or how many moderate elites refuse to pay union wages, or how many churches decide they can legislate 'good Samaritan rules' otherwise know as 'compassion'. IT IS NOT THEIRS TO GIVE AWAY!!!!!!!

I wish him well personally (and would never want his poor health, or God forbid death), but he and the admin, and their political allies are TRAITORS to the AMerican public (the average Joe!).

I don’t think God wants us to be unkind to illigals (personally), as I always try to treat those whom I suspect of being illigal kindly, yet that DOESN’T mean they can get away scott free legally; there must be consequences, and that includes a trip back to Mexico.

They can not be allowed to break our laws..yet as Christians we should always have kindness toward them personally (as some may be lost souls as well..)!

Well, God seemed quite specific whether it is “alien” or “sojourner.” As to breaking laws, I guess the Mexicans have their share of law breakers, but I thought they came here to work. I must be mistaken.

“Just some of the ridiculous and incredible things he said really suck and are fundamentally unpatriotic. This is serious business we are talking about. The future of our country depends on it.”

The future of this country also depends on fixing social security, fixing a dysfunctional education system, fixing a runaway health care system, fixing unethical business practices and lobbying efforts and fixing a state department run by apparachniks.

What Snow said wasn’t unpatriotic. It was reality and if we want a fence, we the people need to vote for people who will support those efforts. The President has no control over it and what suprises me is we all know that.

However, for lack of those votes and candidates who will run on a build the fence agenda, the President felt having something in place was better then nothing. We felt otherwise and won.

If you want to hammer someone on this, hammer the RINOS. Vote them out of office and vote in someone who can actually vote for change.

Traitors: Even with the money-grubbers globalists lose; they still try to win!

WE NEED TO DEFEAT THESE 'ELITES' BIG TIME: PERMANENTLY!

We have media provocateurs posing as “conservatives” who are really sleeper cells trying to cram liberalism and cross dressing liberal candidates down the throats of the GOP voting base.

The leftist liars in the media deciding who is “top-tier” and the RNC hacks letting them determine it is the most disgusting thing.

George "Open Borders" Will is another great example.

Exactly (and it shows what the BUSINESS AND POLITICAL Class) really are all about; riding off the middle-class-basically tranfering Your wealth from You to them!!

This is not totally related but I highly suggest you check out this video (The Money Masters-DVD). Link (watch for free on google) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1583154561904832383&q=THe+money+masters&total=580&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=3

As to your assertion concerning God and the difference between an alien or sojourner you would have to prove that to me with scripture in context.

With respect to being law breakers, the Mexicans that have come here illegally have committed misdemeanors (crossing the borders) and multiple felonies ( acquiring false ids, using false IDs to gain employment and medical access, etc). Whether they came here to gain work I could care less. They knew what they were doing was illegal and if you and I attempted anything similar ( with respect to false IDs and such) we would both be serving time.

Also, the New Testament is real clear on multiple occasions that Christians are to obey the law of the land, there is no excuse or quarter given by Christ or his apostles for breaking laws.

And screw the Madison Avenue limousine liberals like George Will also...

This border problem has to be dealt with... I don’t give a damn how nice Tony Snow is... I don’t care if Sean Hannity is a nice guy... or if Rudy-poody says it worked in NYC... blah, blah, blah...

CLOSE THE FREAKIN’ BORDER, WE ARE AT WAR!

I agree with you totally with your approach. Basically you are saying love the sinner hate the sin.

You cannot have Love without having Justice as well.

The best example of this idea was the sacrifice that our Lord and Savior made for us on the tree. He satisfied justice in paying the price for our sins while exhibiting the highest example of love that will ever be!
