Written by Bruce Daniels - ABQnewsSeeker Friday, 07 September 2007 First-ever presidential forum aimed at Hispanics will be broadcast Sunday. The questions will be asked in Spanish, translated for the eight Democratic presidential hopefuls, answered in English (sorry, Gov. Bill Richardson and Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, who are both fluent in Spanish), then translated back for the questioner and viewers of Univision at a 90-minute forum scheduled to air Sunday.
KLUZ, Cable Channel 41, is scheduled to show "Destino 2008: Foro Presidencial Democrata" from 6 to 7:30 p.m. New Mexico time.
The first-ever candidates' forum aimed exclusively at Hispanics will be held at the University of Miami's BankUnited Center and Coral Gables, Fla., with Univision's longtime news anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas moderating, according to a network news release.
Joining Richardson and Dodd on-stage will be the more Spanish-challenged candidates Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel, Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.
Joe Uva, CEO of Univision Communications Inc., said the candidates would be addressing "issues that matter most to the Hispanic community, via a seamless simultaneous Spanish translation," the release said.
A similar Republican candidate forum is scheduled to take place the following week, on Sunday, Sept. 16, according to the release.

I'm thrilled to see that "A similar Republican candidate forum is scheduled to take place the following week, on Sunday, Sept. 16, according to the release."
If you want on or off the NM Ping list, please FReepmail me.
If you can’t understand enough English to pass the citizenship test why should you be allowed to vote?
Oh yeah. The illegal aliens who got registered while getting welfare never had to pass the citizenship test!
Silly me.
Really?
It's bad enough that the Dims are holding a panderfest. Why should the Republicans hold one too? If I were a candidate I would decline to attend.

Sorry....I thought the sarcasm was evident...will add /sarc tag next time.
I’ll bet there won’t be a Univison station in the USA that will have English subtitles or an English SAP.
“(sorry, Gov. Bill Richardson and Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, who are both fluent in Spanish)...”
No they are not.
There's no bias or pandering in that phrase.
Which one of these America Haters should we vote for?
Maybe they're confused. They thought they were running for the Mexican Presidency, obviously.
We can't have such geographically challenged folks in office, can we?
Let’s see they are broadcasting an American Presidential debate on an all spanish speaking network. Pardon me, this is America and we speak English here. And they are going to have another one the week after? Hmmmmm. Also, isn’t this an American election?
I will let you guys use your imaginations.
They probably are running for leader of Mexico Canada as well as the US.
Hmmm. Tell you what. Let’s have a debate for only a black audience. And then a debate for only a female audience. And then a debate for only an Asian audience.
Oh, that’s right, we’re the United States, not the Balkans. Never mind.
They don't care what country the voters are residents of as long as they show up to vote for them...
Richardson and his dem-controlled legislature have done away with voter ID and sent the state back to paper ballots...that way, ALL the votes can be counted and counted and counted...for the dems.
It's really the first NAU debate.
IOW, like I said, also the first Hate America presidential debate...
Sad isn’t it?
More like infuriating...
I can chew nails with the best of them.

No they are not.
Now that you mention it, I have never Richardson speak Spanish. Does he?
(I have never heard Dodd speak Spanish either, but I make it a practice to ignore him.)

I don't know about Dodd, but Richardson does speak a form of Spanish. I understand that his Mexican compadres snicker at his accent and pronunciation. :^)
