Special Visas for Illegal Aliens Who Become Crime Victims By Susan Jones CNSNews.com Senior Editor September 06, 2007
(CNSNews.com) - People who come into the United States illegally and then become victims of crime may get special protection from the U.S. government.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on Wednesday announced an interim final rule that grants "temporary immigration benefits" to crime victims who assist government officials in investigating or prosecuting the criminal activity.
The goal is to bring crime victims out of the shadows where they tend to hide if they fear deportation.
The new rule offers protection and temporary benefits to victims who are illegal aliens -- and it also bolsters the capabilities of police to investigate and prosecute criminal activity, USCIS said.
The public will have 60 days to comment on the rule, which is about to be published in the Federal Register.
"Many immigrant crime victims fear coming forward to assist law enforcement because they may not have legal status," said USCIS Director Emilio Gonzalez.

How about STIFF penalties then deportation for all those falsely reporting crimes against them. I can see this being used for SPECIAL treatment.
You always get more of what you reward. There is a lot of potential for fraud in this.
I'm wondering if that thought was the basis for making this provision, in the first place.
We are the real victims of crime here, as these people ILLEGALLY gained entrance into our country, ILLEGALLY continued to scam the system to get everything that only U.S. citizens are entitled to, and lastly, used stolen I.D.s to stay in our country ILLEGALLY!!!
Toss them all out now!!!
Well why not! We have people giving special treatment to illegals who come here to commit crimes. Seems fair to both sides.
You know, its remarkable how all three branches of our government seem to have the time, patience, and determination to aid, abet, and bestow all of these protections on people who are here illegally.
What is unremarkable, is how very little they care or support the citizens of the USA.
The end result will be illegals victimizing each other or pretending to do so all in hopes getting those victim visas.
“I am victim of white racist hate crime. Gimme visa.”
MORE Amnesty! This is McCains idea, right?
“People who come into the United States illegally and then become victims of crime may get special protection from the U.S. government. “
When do they plan on protecting American citizens that are paying the bills?
This is just a part of the plan to instutite amnesty a little bit at a time. They couldn’t get the whole shebang at once so they’re trying it piecemeal.
“The end result will be illegals victimizing each other or pretending to do so all in hopes getting those victim visas.”
The sad thing is, while what you say is true, there is a need for this, even though it’s sheer insanity. The illegal community harbors a large number of child rapers and thugs and assorted criminals, and the police and Fed need *something* to help get these monsters off the streets - and thanks to the Executive and Judicial and Legislative offices, their job is that much harder now that they’re pretty much giving illegals carte blanche to stay. They can’t even determine their legal status, which to me is 100 bullsh#t.
They say sh#t trickles downhill, and in this case, it’s never been more true. If the President and the Congress and the Courts won’t get rid of the problem, our police need tools to deal with the monsters that lurk there.
If The President and the Congress and the Courts would uphold and enforce the laws on the books now, we would’nt need this.
MORE Amnesty! This is McCains idea, right?
How about an EXIT VISA?
Nah, you already got a gravy train.
What this looks like to me is to take awaqy the bogus reason sanctuary cities give. Now crack down on them hard. The Fed budget will go into surplus.
