I feel blessed to be living in a time when Pavarotti and Domingo reigned supreme in the musical world for so long. What glorious voices.

Luciano, rest in peace........artiste, maestro, good friend in my home always and forever.

“BTW, do you have the CD’s which match modern accompaniment with scrubbed versions of Caruso singing?”

No I don’t, in fact I didn’t know they existed. I’m going to look for the CD’s now though, because I’d love to have them. I’ll bet I can find them on Amazon, unless you have a better idea (I shop on the Internet mostly nowadays).

Caruso 2000 (RCA Victor-ORF)
Caruso Italian Songs (RCA Victor-ORF)

The first are the operatic arias (includes his "Recitar!...vesti la giubba" from I Pagliacci), the later Italian popular songs (includes the usual suspects). Gottfried Rabl conducting the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra for the modern accompaniments. A little over two hours you will enjoy.

He was one of the greats. Another of my favorites was Mario Lanza, who died all too young.

Arrivederci! Dear Luca..

After the 9 11 attacks I wanted to find out how many people on average die per day in the world and the statistic I saw was just over 150 thousand. Births on the other hand are about double that at just over 300 thousand.

A truly giant talent has left us. He made Opera accessible, with his showmanship, and his obvious enthusiasm for his music, and his singing. He made one of the most demanding disciplines look easy.

Prayers for his family and close friends.

I guess God was short a tenor.

Prayers up for Luciano, family and friends.

(Keep the Faith, my friends! We are the saviors of the Republic! Now and Forever!)

You mentioned "Sting". For those who have never heard Sting sing "Until", they are missing a beautiful melody with words that brought me to tears the first time I heard it. Great song...it's on You Tube

Yeah -- can you imagine having to be the person to sing at his funeral?

I anticipate stunning music during his funeral, and not a dry eye in the church during Ave Maria.

I never was one for Opera, never understood a word of it, but I’d watch him when he was on... sleep well, Luciano. Thanks.

“Yeah — can you imagine having to be the person to sing at his funeral?”

I would guess, or should I say hope, that Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo (from the three tenors concerts) would sing at his service. Plus maybe Sting, Zucchero, and/or Bono from his Pavarotti and Friends concerts. And Andrea Bocelli who mimics him in style and with the signature scarf around his neck, like Pavarotti always had. I should think his funeral service will be a great festival of song in his honor. I hope it is televised here in the U.S.

Pavarotti's rendition of "Pieta, Signore" will forever be one of my favortie pieces of music. What a tremendous loss.

Godspeed, Luciano.

We used to drive into NYC from the suburbs to hear him sing at the Met. What a great talent. Pavarotti sang at the Met 378 times.

I got hooked on great tenors in college by watching Jussi Bjoerling sing at the old Met before they moved to their present facility.
