Abramovich to use Airbus A380 as private jet

PARIS (AFP) - The billionaire Russian owner of Chelsea football club, Roman Abramovich, has ordered an Airbus A380, the world's biggest airliner, for use as his private jet, a report said Wednesday.

French newspaper Le Figaro, which did not cite sources, said Abramovich was the mystery buyer behind an order for an A380 VIP, which was revealed by Airbus at the Paris Air Show in June this year.

The doubledecker A380, which enters service later this year, is capable of carrying 840 passengers, measures 73 metres in length (239-feet) and towers over its biggest rival, the Boeing 747.

Airbus sales director John Leahy had told AFP about the order in June, saying it would be for use by the buyer "and his entourage."

That should double Airbus’ sales.

I personally think it is a butt-ugly bird, but...hey...to paraphrase, if someone gave one to me, I wouldn’t throw it out for eating crackers in the rack...:)

Looks like a great party platform.

If it doesn't have a death ray, I'm still not impressed.

Let him have his Europlane. I intend to order a custom Boeing Blended-Wing Body airliner (the 797?) as soon as it becomes available. Mine will have the ABL nose-mounted laser cannon, detachable mini-fighter, and the upper-deck, food-producing BioDome options.

Did I mention the Orgy Pod?

Seriously: Why do Russians wear those ugly-ass track suits?

If you put in the laser anti missle system from the USAF ABL system normally installed in a 747-400F, it would take up most of the floor space of the A380. Also, it would cut down on the range an payload. He'd have to cut out amenities from the rest of the plane.

I’m sure AlGore will want to borrow it so he can tour the world warning of global warming.

This one’s beyond my reasoning. Even if I were a billionaire, there aren’t all that many places to which I could fly the thing. Something like a BBJ would be a much better option, and could still be a pretty serious party pad.

I don't. Remember, this is an Airbus 380 they are talking about. There will only be one or two dozen places in the world you could land and park it.

That has to have a bunch more square footage than my current house or even the one I am dreaming of acquiring should a couple of investments turn out very well.

You’re better off with the Jeep. I’d like to see that 380 offroad!
