Some good advice from an old GOP campaigner that applies not only to Ron Paul but to the rest of the second-tier candidates as well. The writer is well-versed on old-time campaigns and writes at great length on issues about politics back in the Seventies and Eighties when he was very active politically.

Duncan and Tanc and Huckabee supporters should take notes.

This is posted as a thread about strategery, not about Ron Paul specifically. Copy/paste the article to your Notepad and search/replace "Paul" and "Ron Paul" with your favorite candidate. It's good advice for all of the lesser known candidates.

I don’t know much about Ron Paul but I found this interesting:

I spend Labor Day Weekend driving through Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois. I saw only 2 political bumper stickers. Both were Ron Paul for President.

Its a fantasy that won’t become real.

I do admire your tenacity.

The problem is getting moderates to vote for Ron Paul. Sure the partisans say they will vote for whoever is nominated but that’s a lot of bluster when it comes down to voting for someone other than their candidate.

Duncan Hunter is my candidate but I’m more likely to vote for RP than anyone in the so called “top tier”. I vehemently disagree with Paul on the war but also realize that a withdrawal wouldn’t happen overnight and that he would be following military recommendations.

Personally I’ve been rough on RP in the past but feel that the 2nd tier has far better candidates and we shouldn’t fight among ourselves.

Some info. on Ron Paul and his followers:

http://ronrosenbaum.pajamasmedia.com/2007/07/14/ron_paul_may_not_be_an_anti_se.php

http://www.jewcy.com/daily_shvitz/ron_pauls_a_kook_possibly_a_racist_but_not_an_anti_semite

http://www.latestpolitics.com/blog/2007/05/ron-paul-and-anti-semitism.html

Money quote from the last one:

Why is this anti-Semitic? Because any criticism of Israel or America’s alliance with Israel is anti-Semitic? Hardly. It’s an anti-Semitic statement because it plays directly into classic anti-Semitic tropes, as regards Jews controlling the world and controlling nations through a Jewish conspiracy. Even in his response to Mr. Weigel, Mr. Paul seems to be reiterating this notion of AIPAC controlling Congress, saying, “the assumption is that AIPAC is in control of things, and they control the votes, and they get everybody to vote against anything that would diminish the war.”

Just Say No to Ron Paul.

(Not a Ruddy fan, either. Could stomach just about any of the rest, although I’m hoping Fred gets the nod.)

It could prove interesting.

The Pubbies could enter their Convention without a clear winner this time. It would show significant crevices in the GOP — bigbusiness vs conservative.

After the onslaught and major defeats the RNC and Republican leadership has taken on a few issues, it would be interesting to see who would emerge from a brokered convention to face, in all probability, Hillary Clinton as the Dem nominee.

Follow the link in my tag line. Ron Paul can not win. He can’t win in the debates. He can’t win in the primary, and he can’t win in the general.

RP is a joke, and not even a funny one.

Good article, and maybe something that Ron Paul's official people could learn from. My observation is that his campaign is long on good ideas and grassroots support, but maybe short on old-fashioned politicking.

Of course, he still can't possibly win the primaries, given the well-known fact that he's a space Nazi.

Some good advice from an old GOP campaigner that applies not only to Ron Paul but to the rest of the second-tier candidates as well...Duncan and Tanc and Huckabee supporters should take notes.

This strategy can’t be used by other dark- horse candidates ( Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, Sam Brownback, et al.) since to some degree they echo the regular Republican establishment bloc.

If Ron or Rudy get the nomination, I’m staying home or voting third party.

If all the other candidates died, I guess it could be possible.
