Thanks in part to Toshiba, which is why my husband states we will NEVER own anything with a Toshiba nameplate.

What's the Toshiba connection?

Had the Navy cared if it were photographed they would have covered it.

The Ohio class is only what... Forty some-odd years old?

I love the MSM...can't even get the right damn Bangor...what maroons.

That being said, it takes a few minutes after pumping down the drydock to get the cover over the screw.

It's a case of bad timing for sure, but perhaps they (and Google Earth) need to pixilate sensitive areas like nuke plants and military bases.

They sold CNC machines to a Norwegian company, complete with Cyrillic manuals. That company then sold them to the Soviets.

And to top it all off, about ten years ago, USN ships had Toshiba computers on board.

Maybe the Navy exposed a bogus screw for the ChiComs and Russians to waste some resources on.

Shhhhhhh!

The technology might be, the Ohio itself is 30.

But just because it's "old" doesn't mean our enemies can't make use of it if they get their hands on it...kinda like the B-52's or the A-6's. It may give them the key to overcoming their engineering obstacles.

Amen.

Same goes for me.

Me too. A conservative friend said that this shows that I hold grudges too long but I don't think so.

I gotta say, the amount of detail of that base is very surprising, and it’s not just a single pass, either, there’s, in some parts of the base, four different views available.

Nothing like making it easier on those who would never be able to get such detailed images - you know, those guys who think Mecca is a really awesome place to party out at?

Yeah, these should be pixelated out.

Grudges for too long? I guess we should just forget and forgive when people sell us out, the consequences of which could mean death for friends and family. Sounds like your friend doesn’t have a strong sense of self-survival?

Actually, I think this article is bull because I've looked at the base on Google Earth often, as recently as about 2 weeks ago. While you can see subs there, you can't see the screws.

Besides, my brother-in-law lives just north of the base and his deck (built 2 years ago) doesn't show up... and my house (a few miles south), built 4 years ago is just an empty lot. The photos are old.

Story has a lot of holes in it. Bangor (Sub Base) is in Washington, not Maine. Tridents are not “pulled from the water.” OTOH, when I was at SWFPAC we tried desperatly to get a no fly zone over the area. No luck, now this.

Having done a few drydocking maneuvering watches myself, they don't normally cover the screw until the the well deck has been pumped dry and the area surveyed.

Not quite. Ohio was commissioned in 1981. The last of the class, Louisiana was commissioned in 1997.

The first five boats of the class were converted to SSGNs.

You may be on to something there...whenever we had the screw out of the water, the shipyard always had it tarped over before it was out of the water.

Either this was deliberate, or the shipyard was extremely negligent. Either way, it still comes back to controlling the airspace when anything sensitive is going on.

Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, and Rhode Island/Henry M Jackson. Been out a long time, have all conversions been done?

When I pulled liberty in Bangor, we were nowhere near Maine.

I say ditto to this. Ever since Toshiba revealed US nuke submarine propeller technology a few years back, I’ve refused to buy any of their products.

That’s because you were using those substandard Navy charts instead of Microsoft’s state-of-the-art Virtual Earth.
