Once upon a time, Ted Kennedy could count on his daily dose of veneration. The right wing hated the Massachusetts Democrat, but progressives honored him as a defender of old-school liberalism.
In a remarkable turnaround, liberals are now heaping scorn on the 73-year-old senator. Young audiences boo at his name, and the leftish "Daily Show" on Comedy Central makes fun of him.
The source of unhappiness is Kennedy's efforts to kill an offshore wind farm on Nantucket Sound. Cape Wind was to be the first such project in the United States and a source of pride to environmentally minded New Englanders. Polls show 84 percent of Massachusetts residents in favor. But now it appears that America's first offshore wind farm will be near Galveston, Texas. Proposed the month before Sept. 11, 2001, Cape Wind remains in limbo. It's been frustrated at every turn by a handful of yachtsmen, Kennedy included, who don't want to see windmills from their verandas. Many millions have been spent spreading disinformation and smearing the wind farm's supporters.
The towers would be at least five miles out and barely visible from shore on the clearest day, but the summer plutocrats resent any intrusion on their waterfront vistas -- and, equally, any challenge to the notion that they control everything.

"Warner was dragging American troops into the Cape Wind war," Williams and Whitcomb noted. The outcry forced him to back down.
Why did Warner care so deeply about a wind-energy project in Massachusetts? Some of his fabulously wealthy relatives own choice waterfront property on Cape Cod. That's why. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/09/why_liberals_are_turning_on_te.html
Yeah sure, liberals are turning on Ted Kennedy right up until the time a Republican runs against him. Then he’ll be St John the Kennedy’s younger brother again.
I've ALWAYS been turned on by liberals!
St. John’s younger brother..ha!
Didn’t J-Fink oppose this, too? I don’t see the Libs out to get him........
Until then, they love him.
Wow, I should of had a V-8!!!
Only 38 years too late....
Ted is refusing to give classes on CPR, again?
The Miss America contestants volunteered as units on which to be performed? Ted wants all the Miss America contestants for himself?
Says he will share with Bill only?
I should have known......
What we have here is another Bill to the taxpayers, and Ted claiming everyone should ride in his car, over the bridge and look at the water.
Not the fact that he killed a campaign worker during a boozy weekend? Not the fact that he's a drunken elitist who is corrupt to the core? Not the fact that he has preyed on the naive awe of Massachusettans for half a century? THIS is what it took for the Left to finally see this blowsy mediocrat for what he is?
I guess I'll take their enlightenment where I find it ...
Only 38 years too late....

Yeah, and when I look back to what this POS tried to do to Reagan with using the KGB on him, I am sickened by the fact that Reagan is gone, and this vile trash is still in our midst.
I know why Ted Kennedy opposes offshore wind farms. When Kennedy dies, he’s left his liver to the local power company. They’ll be able to burn it for 50 years in order to create cheap electrical power to all of Hyannis.
Ditto, not even 1/1000 the man Reagan was....
Kennedy should start a gin farm.
Why can’t Democrats grow spines and be for the working man again? Not try to develop the United Socialist States of Democratic America?
Too many unpaid bar tabs finally getting to the Senator...
Thanks IJ — you took my words.
He is one vile POS. Can’t belive people have been
idolising and voting for him all of these years.
Notice how Kennedy’s nose looks like someone tried to light it, thinking it was his cigar?
