Brent Musberger Yells at Berkely Tree-Huggers on ABC (vanity)
ABC TV ^ | 9/1/07 | highimpact

I just watched this on ABC. California (Berkely) was playing the University of Tennessee (at Cal). The conversation happened around 5:50 local time. Brent Musberger, Kirk Herbstreit, and the sideline reporter named Lisa were discussing a bunch of Berkely students who were living in trees outside the stadium.

Lisa: "Well Brent as you were mentioning, about those folks up in the trees, the reason that they're so upset is that, the University of California, has proposed a $125 million dollar project. They want to build a training facility for the athletes here at the University of California, and they want to build it right outside of the stadium.

Well the folks up in those trees say, 'You can build that facility somewhere else. We don't want you cutting down these trees!" So, Berkely being Berkely, they're up there in those trees. And so far, Berkely hasn't gotten them down."

Herbstreit: "Hey Lisa, Brent, what's with the tissue paper? What's that all about?" (describing a scene in which a Bezerkely student in a tie-die climbs a tree clutching a 4-pack of Charmin and some kind of munchie.)

Musberger: "The necessities of life, young man."

Herbstreit: "So when you say livin, you..."

Musberger: "I'm not kidding. Here it is from out behind on the western side of this beautiful stadium (camera pans to show the stadium from hovering blimp.) Now some of these trees have to come down. There's thirteen teams that have to be housed in here. The University has promised, PROMISED, to plant three trees for every one they cut down. Two saplings, and one mature tree. THREE FOR ONE IS A VERY GOOD DEAL IF YOU'RE A TREE-HUGGER!"

(Pause, return to football action.)

Musberger: "So, it will be California's turn..."

Please provide evidence that these hippie scum are “Berkeley students”, as you claim. As far as we all know, Berkeley students are at the campus, uh, studying.

I think the squatters are blowing some magic smoke on Tennessee’s defense. We gotta hold ‘em in the second half!

What does the tree-hugger think that Charmin is made from???

How unLiberal of Brent. He’d better be careful. He could get drummed out of the corps.

My bad. Blame it on east coast bias.

Can't do it. I apologize to all of the Cal-Berkeley conservatives who read this. I know there must be some Freepers who attended that school. I didn't intend to paint with that brush. FWIW, I'm not a Vol fan either.

LOL! They are killing the trees in order to save them.

From a related story:

The sitters have sleeping pads, bathroom buckets, books, guitars and food, but authorities said Thursday they may have cut the 40-to 50-foot tall trees to give themselves more room. No one has been cited, and authorities are trying to determine who was responsible.

"The trees are permanently damaged. It's not like the top of the tree is going to grow back," said university official Mitch Celaya, who said the tree tops were apparently chopped more than a month ago.

It's not about the trees. It's about THEM.

They can be heroes to all their enviro-wacko buddies.

Apology accepted. Berzerkeley is a city of Cal students, who do what students everywhere else do, and of lifetime activists and bums who do what such bums do. The students, except for the few among them, stay out of the Leftie politics, even if they sympathize, as most young people do, the activists, are old hippies and their unfortunate children, as well as various lonely, misquided drifters who flock into the city in search of meaning and causes. It’s a sad picture, and I suspect you’ll see it in most university towns across the country.

There is nothing sadder than to see today, 40 years after the “Summer of Love”, a 25 year old hippie, or a 60 year old hippie. What’s wrong with these people?
