The first truth we must find is a way to swallow this - we have exactly the government we elected!
Our Republican President has a public approval rating hovering around 30% and our Democrat congress has an approval rating down around 20%. Clearly, we don’t think much of our government, but we elected them and what does that say about us?

In my last column titled “Ron Paul—A Liberal-tarian, not a Conservative," I demonstrated how easy it is to attack any politician on his alleged voting record, demonize an entire group on the basis of a few in that group who are willing to use unethical tactics to promote their allegedly ethical candidate, and cause a firestorm of political banter, both pro and con, without ever really getting to the heart of the subject at hand.

The author doesn’t understand the basis of Paul’s support among conservatives. He gets support from some conservatives because of an absolute disgust with the political establishment in both parties.
To what extent does the GOP really differ from the Democratic Party? Where is the opposition to the welfare state and to the entire regulatory apparatus put in place under FDR? Such a position was once regarded as conservative. But instead the GOP is relegated to collecting taxes for the uplifters of the left, and to fighting rear guard actions on the long march to utopia.
He gets support from conservatives because he's purposely mislabeled himself, and his minions have perpetrated the myth.
I doubt any conservative, especially this writer, missed any of that news flash.
He’s right however, that libertarian ideals worsen the problem. I can’t understand why any Republican supports any candidate whose campaign speech sounds just like Teddy Kennedy’s, Cindy Sheehan and Jane Fonda???
Someone needs to explain how this speech sounds better coming from Ron Paul than from all the leftists who have been making the same speech for years???
How can a candidate be weak on national defense and strong on liberal social policies, be called a “conservative”?
I have only heard him claim to be a constitutionalist, not a conservative.
This is a hit piece directed at RP. William’s attempt to link RP and his supporters with social liberals is atrocious. All one need do to debunk this lie is review Dr. Paul’s voting record.

I have had many discussions with Paul supporters and although they claim to be constitutionalists, they appear to know nothing about the constitution. Though they call themselves conservatives, they support few conservative ideas beyond smaller government and lower taxes, which can never be acheived under liberal social policies.
His entire campaign is based on him being the “most conservative” candidate in the race... Ask his supporters.

Ah yes, the hoary old myth of dumb conservatives getting led astray by packaging and labels. Are you sure you are a conservative?
The GOP as a whole does not represent my values, and the typical GOP officeholder is indistinguishable to me from most Democrats. OTOH, nearly all of the handful of politicians I do like are Republican.
I got a call last night from a Ron Paul campaign worker, since I’m going to the Texas Straw Poll convention this weekend.
At 10:45 PM; my wife and young son were already in bed asleep, and 5 minutes later I’d have been there myself.
Do they do this sort of thing to annoy folks intentionally?

Just ask any supporter. They call him a conservative, yet also work in the constitutionalist moniker. So, what is he? I call him a libertarian.
Dr. Paul's Congressional voting record is not alleged, it is fact.
If giving his campaign money makes me a “supporter”, then I’m a supporter. I didn’t know there was a conservative in the race. Is there one? In terms of overlap with my political ideology, Paul comes the closest.

I can keep going, but this should do. Yes, Ron Paul supports these notions, as do his supporters and folks like Cindy Sheehan and Teddy Kennedy.

The writer didn’t link him and neither did I. His policy positions link him. How can any awake individual miss that?
They are organized and energized. But there’s a good chance the MoveOn.org phone bank made that call...
I must agree. I am beginning to find that the liberal elements of the GOP are totally afraid of Ron Paul.
As I look into Paul’s background, more and more his critics look like whiny liberals. Also, I think the real fear they have of Paul is not his stance on Iraq, but his opposition to Globalism, NAFTA, big government....all anathema to the Global-Socialist liberals that have taken over the GOP.
Its funny that Paul’s opponents label him a “liberal”. His critics have no understanding of what a conservative really is
Try explaining it to me... I’m always interested in learning.
And those “factual” votes do not look “conservative” in many instances.
