Thompson to Announce Run for President with Online Video Followed by Three-State Campaign Tour

McLean, VA – On September 6, 2007, Fred Thompson will be announcing his intention to run for President of the United States with a webcast available to millions at www.imwithfred.com. The launch of the video will be followed by a five-day campaign tour through Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

“I believe that there are millions of Americans who know that our security and prosperity are at risk if we don’t address the challenges of our time; the global threat of terrorism; taxes and spending that will bankrupt future generations, and a government that can’t seem to get the most basic responsibilities right for its citizens,” stated Fred Thompson.

“The response that we’ve received makes me confident that we have an opportunity to change politics in Washington and across the country, and take on these challenges the way every generation of Americans has faced the challenges of their time – with unity, hard work and a belief that we will come out on the winning side,” continued Thompson.

“We enter this campaign in a strong position,” said committee manager Bill Lacy. “Fred is consistently near the top in the polls, and conservatives across the country have put together the closest thing to a draft in recent presidential campaign history in an effort to bring about this day. The next few weeks will only serve to build upon those efforts, with house parties nationwide on the 6th, and visits to the early primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, quickly followed by stops in Florida and a homecoming in Lawrenceburg, TN on the 15th.”

“By announcing via webcast, Fred is able to take his consistently mainstream conservative message directly to the voters, who are already responding to that message with a strong upwelling of grassroots support. The webcast and the following campaign tour will play to Fred’s strengths, a consistent record of conservatism, his ability to clearly spread his message, and his ability to work with and connect with Americans from all walks of life,” said Lacy.

The committee will file our formal paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission within 15 days, the time allowed by law after Fred decided to run. Additionally, we will begin to consider candidate based events following Fred’s broadcast on September 6, 2007.

I know how to search, but that doesn’t give a transcript of an interview, genius. I even listened to all of the interviews on the issue on RM’s lovely chart. Which is a good effort for his candidate, very helpful.

I don’t have time to waste on it, I’ve spent enough time on it. I figure if a reporter presses him for an answer for something beyond the border fence [is that the ONLY answer he has?] and he comes up with something as lame as he did by your standards, then I don’t have time to deal with his indecisiveness.

I don’t disagree with what he says about the fence, but he needs to give more of an answer than he has, maybe put it on his website [there’s an original idea] and quit tapdancing around.

We lost it because the GOP has more or less quit arguing for conservatism. At least most have. Hunter has been the loudest and most persistent arguer in Congress for winning in Iraq. He has been the loudest and most persistent arguer for securing the border and deporting illegals since the 1980s, he has been the loudest and most consistent supporter for strenghtening and upsizing the military, he has been the loudest and most consistent man promoting the life of the unborn. He has been the loudest and most consistent in defending our 2A rights. He has been the loudest and most consistent in fighting the gay, leftist agenda, he has been the lousest and most consistent in calls for tax cuts. He has been the loudest and most consistent in fending off political correctness in general. He just got scant MSM coverage.

And the GOP masses have instead flocked to Rudy T. McRomney who have been none of those things. SO you see, I see this as a fight for America’s and the GOP’s soul. Reaganism, or some mushy alterantive.

Have at it all you want; but we have a golden opportunity here to put in the right candidate; not the one just because he might win. Look what happened in CA. They got another Rino with red flags everywhere. And a golden opportunity missed.

Look, we have to start somewhere. I thought we were here to bring about real change. Not just to win. I have read about all of the candidates and Duncan Hunter fits the bill and he is actually doing things the way we want them done. No, he’s not a movie star and no he doesn’t have a glamorous wife who takes pics with a glamorous horse; nor does he seem to have battles with his children or on his third wife; or had a fat body that lost a lot of weight and misinforms about his take on immigration. He does support the war and returning illegals to their county of origin. Sounds like the one for me.

Look, they all have something wrong that we can analize to pieces; but all I ask is really, really scrutinize these guys and come together for the one that will help our country.

Please don’t miss this golden opportunity to keep America free and the land of the brave.

The goes way before the GOP...

Way before Hunter...

Before Reagan...

Do the right thing vs doing the easy or expedient thing goes way back.

Sure I did. Then I threw him back and caught myself a serious candidate.

Yes, I know. Unfortunately, the Senate has scant few Jeff Sessions and Tom Colburns and alot of Larry Craigs, John McCains and Olympia Snowes. The house only is slightly better.

OK Genius. I spent 5 minutes looking on google:

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with asking folks who come in illegally, to go home. We deport thousands of people every month. I don’t see any other way to re-establish the currency of American law than to keep the law.”
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0507/3805.html

I asked Duncan Hunter, the GOP congressman from California whose immigration policy is built around the idea of a really big fence, what he’d do with the illegal immigrants here. His answer: Shoo ‘em out.

“You realize we deport thousands of people every month,” he told me. “We tell folks, ‘You have to go home. Make your country a good country. Put pressure on your government if you don’t like things. Get after those congressmen in Mexico and those congressmen in other countries.’ “
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/08/AR2007060802489_pf.html

I was at the Duncan Hunter event in Troy last night. I’m still undecided, but this is a guy I can back if he gets some traction. His main issue is trade. He’s the first presidential candidate since Pat Buchanan to run on trade as his main issue. Unlike Buchanan, Hunter has held elective office. Some of his platform and stances...

2. Immigration reform. Build the fence and stop illegal immigration. Deport those who are illegally here and make them come in the right way. He also stated he would pardon Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean Convicted for shooting an illegal immigrant/drug dealer.
http://republicanmichigander.blogspot.com/2007/03/duncan-hunter-visits-michigan.html

Rep. Duncan Hunter of California- Where he stands:
• Favors deporting the millions of illegal aliens. A sponsor of legislation authorizing construction of border fence.

What he’s said:
• “When you discover an effective deterrent to crime, you use it. I know fencing helps secure our nation’s borders because criminal activity in every statistical category has been eliminated or decreased since we built the border fence in San Diego County.” — Campaign website

He also said the same during one of the debates, on interviews on Fox and CNN and elsewhere. It has been common knowledge about Hunter that he wants to deport the illegals since oh, about 1986.

They don’t have all of it, but they have far too much. Arlen Specter is a prime example. Yet the RNC loves him. Just like they do Rudy McRomney.

trisham wrote: “I’d still like to see Fred take Hunter as his VP. What do you think the chances are of Hunter going for that?”

Fred would have to ask him first, and I don’t see that happening. If Hunter were leading in California, that might be a different story, but he can’t even carry his own state.

OTOH, Fred will probably offer Hunter SECDEF, and the congressman would bring a lot to that job.

Yeah, but the RNC is a politcal body, numbers have to come into play at some point.

I noticed crickets in response to my post 111.

I love these latest arguments agianst Hunter—

He is only getting money for his son’s race

He is tapdancers around what to do with illegal aliens (ROFL)

He is just grandstanding on the border fence.

Rank stupidity has invaded FR.
