Romney, a former governor who made health care reform his signature issue in Massachusetts, suggested that as president he would increase federal spending on research of breast cancer and other cancers.
"There's no substitute for funding," he said

Do you think he’ll have time for that, what with being the president and all?

There was a time when the American Cancer Society would raise money, conduct research and produce stop smoking commercials. Now the American Cancer Society raises money, hires lobbyists who lobby the federal government to conduct research and produce TV commercials. This is not a federal government function. Mitt Romney talks a good small government game but deviates freely, like here and on NCLB. I wonder where else he’ll deviate from “small government” philosophy?

I support cutting many worthless projects and divert some of the funds to cancer research.

While I'm all for curing cancer (and other nasty diseases), I'd just once love to hear a 'Pubbie hopeful NOT tell me how he's gonna spend my $$$, but rather how he'll shrink the Fed down to its proper Constitutional proportions.
I'm not holding my breath.

Take all the research money dumped in AIDS each year and put it into cancer research. At least it will benefit everyone across the entire world spectrum instead of just the sodomites.

This must be in response to the “Lance Armstrong” ‘Debate’ on health issues on MSNBC. Did anyone catch it ... the dems were present and accounted for.

"There's no substitute for funding," he saidYep, I guess Taxotere, Taxol, Femara and many other anti-cancer drugs could never have been developed without federal funding.
Romney's in full pander mode now.

Mitt Romney talks a good small government game but deviates freely, like here and on NCLB. Mitt's just another "limited government conservative" who wants limited government unless it limits what he wants government to do.

Romney's in full pander mode now. Just telling the audience what he thinks they want to hear. Anybody shocked? He's been doing this since his unsuccessful '94 Senate run.

Yeah but did he have the gonads to point out that the only way to do this is to take away some of the excessive, unfair share of money that’s being devoted to AIDS research? Now THAT would be news!

suggested that as president he would increase federal spending on research of breast cancer and other cancers.Wheeee!!! Let's spend money on how fast a sugar cube melts in water as well. Just to confirm the observations have been totally true. I'll just need a paltry $500 million over 10 years for such a project
The problem with most politicians (most recently Republicans) is they no longer care if an issue is Constitutional before they promise to give it. I would ask where federal research funding is in the Constitution but I already know a big government lover will misread Article I Section 8 for a response.....
But remember kids, get out there and vote for a 'conservative'. Because they're so much better than the liberals....
