Al Qaeda has an active plot to hit the West. The United States knows about it but doesnt have enough tactical detail to issue a precise warning or raise the threat level, says Vice Admiral (ret.) John Scott Redd, who heads the governments National Counterterrorism Center.
In an interview at his headquarters near Washington, D.C., Redd told Newsweeks Mark Hosenball and Jeffrey Bartholet that the country is better prepared than ever to counter such threats.
But he also believes another successful terror attack on the U.S. homeland is inevitable. Excerpts:
NEWSWEEK: People in various agencies have said that since Tora Bora in 2001, they at no time have had even 50-percent confidence that they knew where Osama bin Laden was on any particular day, and therefore they have been unable to mount any operations to go get him. Is that wrong?
Redd: What Ill tell you about bin Laden is if we knew where he was, hed either be dead or captured. Its that simple.
[Hes] obviously a tough target. That whole area is a tough target.
And my standard answer on OBL is: remember [convicted Atlanta Olympics bomber] Eric Rudolph.

Why do people believe bin Ladens still alive?
*snip*
People are starting to say, Hes dead. Hes dead. Quite frankly, we think that if he had died it would have become known. It would be very hard to keep that from leaking out.
*snip*
Earlier this summer, there was talk that people were picking up chatter that reminded them of the summer before 9/11.

What do you make of this?
We have very strong indicators that Al Qaeda is planning to attack the West and is likely to [try to] attack, and we are pretty sure about that.

Well, they would like to come West, and they would like to come as far West as they can
BTTT !
This is just completely backwards.
Thanks for the ping STARWISE.
OPINION: Really, this should surprise no who reads The Threat Matrix on FreeRepublic.com, no one with common sense, and no one who understands terrorism.
It will surprise liberals, those who have chosen to be willfully ignorant, and others who are not able to comprehend (due to age, head injuries, or mental challenges) the topic of terrorism.
I recall a show about Andy Warhol which featured one of his associates commenting on his death. As I recall it - “Andy always used to say, ‘Death is so abstract’ and I never understood what he meant by that, but after he died I realized it was true! Everything was the same as it was before, but he just wasn’t around. It was like he was off on a trip or just out somewhere, and I kept feeling like he could show up at any moment.”
I know ... God protect us.
God hears our prayers.
But they’re not going to be stupid enough to attack on President Bush’s watch.
They’ll wait until some weak-willed Dem like Dennis or Bambi is in charge and then attack and get them to surrender, “Just don’t hit me one more time, please.”
Unfortunately the mainstream media won’t be around to see what they have wrought because they’ll all be doing their same-sex thing.
Remember, we have to be effective 100% of the time. They only have to be effective once.
If the cells are autonomous or franchised (as AQ seems to have morphed into), you likely have more than one without even a modestly intelligent leader who would understand that logic.
Typical Newsweak article.

Very much so.
Really? Is this their rationale for thinking he’s alive?
If he’s alive their they’re doing a damned good job of “keeping that from leaking out”.
Of course we will get hit again. Why do you think Al Qaeda cheered for the liberals to win last November? They know the know the Rats will do everything possible to stop an atack
Very sobering- not surprising.
I wonder how much coverage this interview will receive - particularly on MSNBC?
Glenn Beck's been talking about school attacks.
They could wait till after the election, and send Bush off with a big bang.
Then, what would the Rats have us do?

IMHO it would be prudent to be as close to home as possible on 9/11/2007.
