Dress violated school’s dress code, principal said. Most students in compliance.

Austin Perkins, 17, thought he was going one step above what was required of him.

Poll The Golden Gate High School senior wore a jacket and tie to school Wednesday and the act sent him to in-school suspension.

His violation? He wasn’t following the dress code. “I thought it was better than a polo shirt,” he said. “So, my friend and I thought why not take the extra step? It says business dress. A coat and tie are business dress. Instead we were thrown in a room where we couldn’t talk.”

I used to wear a blazer to high school even though no one else did. I also used to carry a Bible around just to cheese people off.

Stupid student, Schools are for INDOCTRINATION, not education.

How can you young skull of mush be informed of the proper canned response to the “key words and tricky phrases” that pass for an “education” now days when you go off and take such intuitively independent action. You are making the rest of you classmates look stupid.(Which they are) Thus you must be punished.

Plot Outline:

Private Joe Bauers, the definition of "average American", is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he's easily the most intelligent person alive.

If you read the entire article I believe the school was correct. They set their DEFINITION of business attire (perhaps they should not have used that phrase though). The students in question, for whatever reason, chose to violate the dress code. What you have here is a well dressed smart ass.

Priorities are screwed up at that screwel.

I teach at an adult medical vocational school here in Ohio, and it’s not unusual to have a high-screwel graduate who’s been on the honor roll at the local high school who cannot tell time on an analog clock, can’t multiply 2 times 5 without a calculator, and couldn’t tell a noun from a pronoun.

So, it’s always amusing to see our “educators” get fussy over the damn dumbest things. I’m not surprised. Yeah, I agree: come up with a “screw Bush” t-shirt, and he’d still be in school.

Maybe he violated “double-secret-probation” uniform codes we mere taxpayers don’t knwo about?

Or perhaps, they misinterpreted his business attire as gang apparel?

A jacket and tie are nice but not quite enough

Here is the code:

“Golden Gate High approved a professional dress code for students last year, making it the first high school in Collier County to do so. Under the policy, students are required to wear collared or polo shirts that must be tucked in. The shirts must be in a solid color of white, gray, green, pink or khaki. The shirts must be 3 inches below the waist, which is school board policy.

“Students are allowed to wear long pants, walking shorts, skirts or dresses in black, khaki or denim fabric. Belts are required.

Presumably, he was wearing a collared shirt and long trousers as stated in the code. There is nothing to prohibit jackets and ties that I can see.

If a student draws a picture of a firearm, does the school have the ability to define it ( the picture ) as a firearm?

Either “Animal House” or “Rushmore”. Either way, it’s always a winner!

But what of the other students that may not have won in life's lottery and can't afford to dress that well?

No. But they have a right to set a dress code.

The thing about that movie that cracks me up is whenever anyone swears, a buzzer goes off somewhere in the distance.
