[Bob] Kerrey's Happy Outside the Senate, but . . .[May Run for Hagel's Seat]
Washington Post ^ | 8/26/07 | Chris Cillizza and Shailagh Murray

Former senator Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.) seems to be creeping ever closer to a Senate race in 2008, telling the board of trustees at the New School -- where he serves as president -- that a candidacy is a possibility....

Kerrey seems convinced that Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) has decided against running for a third term in 2008, creating an open seat and a golden opportunity for the Democrat's return to Washington. Kerrey has spoken with Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) about the possibility and would probably have the right of first refusal among Democrats; "I was flattered that Senator Reid wants me to run," Kerrey said of those conversations. Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey is also interested but would almost certainly defer if the former senator wanted back in.

Republicans want U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns, a former Nebraska governor, as their candidate but will be hard-pressed to persuade state Attorney General Jon Bruning, who is already running against Hagel, to drop out of the primary.

A Kerrey-Johanns matchup would be the early front-runner for the marquee race of the 2008 cycle. Kerrey said he will make a decision on the day Hagel announces his own intentions. Political junkies wait with bated breath.

Sounds like RATS are pulling out the stops to find the biggest name candidates they can.

I’m surprised that Bob Kerry is even considering it. He must still be well-liked if the DemocRATS are pressing him to run.

By the way, they had also approached Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey, who is a close ally of the other Senator (Ben Nelson).

I’m frankly surprised that guy hasn’t been recruited for the big race again.

Bob Kerrey loved the state of Nebraska so much that when he retired from politics he could hardly wait to return home to live among his fellow homestaters. Well, er, make that he could hardly wait to move to New York City and live among the hoity toity. Now if that doesn’t make for a killer political ad, nothing does.

I am smelling a rat from the demdummies.

Are these articles coming out just before “former senator” Thompson announces in order to cast dispersion on him?

Bruning sounds like a good candidate. We can’t allow a dem to take this spot.

Kerrey today is probably even “more leftist” than when he was last in office, and this will show after he does officially become a U.S. Senate candidate (if he does decide to run).

Past experience shows that Bob Kerrey prefers the peasants to be unarmed.

Well if a carpet-bagger like Shrillery could get elected in NY twice then maybe Kerrey can be a reverse-carpet-bagger and run for election in his distant “home state” that he abandoned for the decadence of the “New School for Social Research” in NYC aka the New School for Socialism.

So he will be able to explain to the voters why after many years of living in Washington, DC he was SOOOOOOO attached to Nebraska that he rushed off to NYC. He hasn’t really “lived” in Nebraska for decades — I’m sure liberals won’t care, but can he really win a majority in Nebraska this way?

If Kerrey runs again for the Senate, does this mean we can rehash the Democrat side of the 9/11 Commission again?

That plus the fact that the “New School” is so left-wing that it makes most liberal universities look positively middle-of-the-road. It will be a hard sell to convince most semi-normal people in Nebraska that Kerrey is in any way still “one of them” or truly shares their views and concerns — though I’m sure with enough ‘Rat propaganda and financing he might be almost competitive.

Bob Kerry is not the Boy Scout the media makes him out to be. He blew me off when I needed help. I found out he is aligned with a mobster type machine in Omaha.

"Sounds like RATS are pulling out the stops to find the biggest name candidates they can."

They always dig up & run the same old - same old.

There is never anything new with the RATS. No new ideas or any bright future to get excited about.

They keep running on the same issues that they say they can solve - but never do.

I can't for the life of me see why anyone would want to vote for a RAT.

The Democrats have a better candidate for the long term, a young fellow by the named of Kleeb, whoin 2006 made a strong run for congress in a heavily Republican district. He’s a true moderate: a pro-life Democrat.

My thoughts exactly. How can the President of the New School run for Senator in Nebraska. As far as I know NY is the only state with the move in the day of the election qualifying rules for candidates.

Didn’t Bob Kerry have some kind of scandal while in office. Or was it something about his Vietnam war history that made big news.

Check his bio at Wiki. It was a village massacre in Vietnam.

Nebraska would just be exchanging a ‘Rat for a RINO, with little difference in policies.

Hagel is to Nebraska what a gigantic pimple on the tip of the nose is to a teenager getting ready for the prom.
