When I tried it I used only “fredrepublic.com” and google asked me if I meant freerepublic and posted this site and others.

I am assuming google did that for you and you ended up here per google’s search. I see you have browse etc. after your inquiry link also suggesting this is what happened.

No, this has nothing to do with google of any other search engine. You can type ‘fredrepublic.com’ in as a URL and it will bring you to FR.

Yes, however that Google Search then gives hits to "(http://www.fredrepublic.com/focus/browse) " and clicking on those hits does take you to Free Republic.
