"Fiction just doesn't interest me," said Bob Ryan, 41, who works for a construction company in Guntersville, Ala. "If I'm going to get a story, I'll get a movie."

That quote pretty much says it all, I suppose. I prefer to let my own mind design characters when I read. When I read a book and then see the movie, 9 times out of 10 they aren't even close to how it all appeared and unraveled in my head.

I love to read. I have read 4 books in the last month at least. I wish I could read more, but I simply don't have the time.

I agree - except for “Lord of the Rings”: the characters, orcs included, were EXACTLY as I pictured them in my head!
BTW, thanks for your family’s service.

I agree with you. I very rarely watch movies. I prefer to read the book. I purchased my first DVD/TV combo a few months ago and the only reason I did that is because I will occasionally work nights and need it to keep me sane through the extended shift at work.

I read Raintree County, at least I tried to read it; I have judged every book since (about 41 years ago) on a 1 to RTC scale but I haven’t been to the library in over a year.

BTW, RTC is the highest mark possible on a range of difficulty; rather like the namesake film where they cast Montgomery Clift as the leading man, it has all been downhill since then.
