Laziness in the industry doesn’t make your point. The majority of the general fiction published, and the vast majority sold is NOT geared towards the educated urban audience. Patterson, Leonard, Hiassen, Ludlum, etc etc etc, these are the guys writing books that sell, and they’re geared towards whatever the hell the everyman is. McCarthy might write for the educated urban audience, but as you pointed out his books don’t sell for crap, thus your own statement proves you wrong.
