Islamabad, Aug 19 (PTI) At least 15 militants, mostly foreigners, were killed after Pakistan Army helicopters bombed two compounds in the troubled tribal region today, a military spokesperson said.

Major General Waheed Arshad said that gunship helicopters launched operation in North Waziristan tribal Agency early today after militants attacked security force last night.

"We have received information from local sources that 15 militants, mostly foreigners of Uzbek origin, were killed," he told TV channels.

General Arshad said the militants took shelter in two compounds after the overnight attack.

To a question he said that no militant was arrested as only the helicopters took part in the operation.

Two soldiers were killed in the late night attack on the checkpost, which had triggered counter attack from the security forces.

Locals say that shells also hit houses, killing two women, two children and a male.

Militants fired rockets and used automatic weapons to attack the security checkpost four kilometres east of Mirannshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan, according to locals.

The check post was completely destroyed in the attack.

Local TV channels reported that eight rockets were fired at a fort of security forces in Mir Ali but no one was hurt in the attack.

A soldier and a suspected suicide bomber were killed when the bomber exploded his car near a checkpost in North Waziristan yesterday evening.

There is an emerging problem in the NW frontier that Musharraf/Pakistan needs to move quickly on: large numbers of Uzbeks are moving in. Uzbekistan has no jobs, people are starving, most are moving to Pakistan as migrant workers but not going home. They are very tight, agressive and highly radicalized, they hate the West, and NATO. They are bullying the Waziris and Pashtuns everywhere they set up camp. They are all Sunni and AQ and fundamentalist.

The Iraqi national Abu Akasha, an al-Qaeda operative, was the target of the military operation.

We are starting to see the locals rat out the AQ in their midst.
