The two dealers, John's Gun & Tackle Room of Easton, Pennsylvania, and Franklin Rod & Gun Shop of Rocky Mount, Virginia, have agreed to settlements providing for a Special Master selected by the City and appointed by the court to monitor their firearms sales activities.

I believe there's a federal statute forbidding dealers from disclosing the contents of 4473's to anyone other than federal government personnel. Would purchasers fill out other forms for the "special masters"? Could the dealers legally be obligated to confirm that those other forms matched the 4473's, given that such confirmation would disclose the contents of the 4473's to unauthorized personnel?

What's the statute of limitations on civil rights charges anyway? I'd love to see a new President direct the justice department to pursue all cases of this nonsense not blocked by statute of limitations. Not likely I know, but I can dream.

Mayor Bloomie has delusions of grandeur. He must think he's already bought the Whitehouse, and is the boss of all 50 states.

Somebody tell this jerk he's a MAYOR for crying out loud!

Toccoa Pawn & Variety, was identified as “irresponsible”and “rogue” during a mayoral press conference earlier this year however Mayor Bloomberg may have made a mistake by including this gun broker in his lawsuit.
The legal team hired by Toccoa Pawn & Variety found that 8 of 14 fully traced firearms found in New York City were stolen during a 1997 burglary. In the 1997 burglary, thieves stole 127 firearms by defeating the building’s alarm system. A full investigation by local, state and Federal agencies returned only a limited number of firearms. Four additional firearms identified by Bloomberg have not completed the full trace history but it is likely that the additional firearms found in New York were stolen as well.
Toccoa Pawn & Variety has been in full compliance with the ATF for 21 years, the amount of time it has sold firearms.
Mayor Bloomberg failed to fully research the firearms found in New York City before labeling the business as “irresponsible”.
It is unfortunate that Mayor Bloomberg’s office didn’t contact us prior to filing of the lawsuit and give us the opportunity to make the Mayor aware what happened in 1997. We fully intend to defend ourselves against this lawsuit We pride ourselves in running a respectable business and this lawsuit has damaged the public trust we spent years to develop in the community.
In light of the facts surrounding the firearms found in New York City Toccoa Pawn Shop hopes that Mayor Bloomberg will recognize his mistake and take the appropriate steps to restore public confidence in Toccoa Pawn & Variety.

Every gun shop that caved needs to go out of business.

I think the gun dealers settling with NYC is more absurd.

It is. But maybe they got shaken down, as usual. That is to say that perhaps it was much cheaper to settle than even begin to fight.
