A squadron of MV-22 Ospreys will be operating out of Miramar Marine Corps Air Station starting today.
The Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron will be training at the base until Sept. 8. People in the area can expect to see the aircraft flying around the area.
The Osprey is the military's first tilt-rotor production aircraft. It can go from flying horizontally at 200 mph to landing vertically like a helicopter in 45 seconds, carrying up to 24 people at a time.
We have these around here (Hurlburt Field / Eglin AFB) and they definitely turn heads when they fly!..............
Incorrect. 220 KIAS to zero in 12 seconds.
VMM-263 will be deploying to Al Asad aboard the USS Wasp in a few weeks.
Looks like a lot of expense to deploy 200 men. Of course, 200 men in the right place at the right time can be crucial to an overall effort and be cheap in that respect.
That LHD will be deploying a lot more than a single Osprey squadron.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
This is a medium volume pinglist.
Thanks for the additional information. Since the thread was about the Osprey I was thinking only in terms of that, missing the larger picture.
