WHACKING IRAN

August 16, 2007 -- THE media missed a big one yesterday. They ran with the story that the Bush administration will soon designate Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps - a major troublemaker in Iraq - as a terrorist organization. But they didn't look past the public-consumption explanation that the move lets our government go after the Revolutionary Guards' finances and the international companies that cut deals with Tehran's thugs.
The real reason for the move is to set up a legal basis for airstrikes or special operations raids on the Guard's bases in Iran.
Our policy is that we reserve the right to whack terrorists anywhere in the world. Now we have newly designated terrorists. And we know exactly where they are. But watch that space: We've long delayed taking action against the Iranians who provide Iraq's Shia extremists with the sophisticated IEDs that kill and maim our troops. We fell into the Vietnam-era trap of allowing the enemy a sanctuary - this time, in Iran. The Revolutionary Guards' al-Quds subsidiary helped butcher hundreds of our troops - and got away with it virtually scot-free.
Looks like those days are nearing an end

If there’s anybody that needs “whacking”, it’s the Iranians and their mullahs and IslamoNazis. Kill em all, Allah and the virgins can sort em out.

‘Spitboy’ got the message... he spent most of his show last night trying to confirm from his lefty guests that Bush is going to make a preemptive strike on Iran.

Jim Quinn (Syndicated and XM Radio Host) said that his “anonymous source” has been telling him for weeks that an airstrike on Iran is imminent.

I wonder if Bush has the cojones to make a strike.
If he does it, he probably won't be re-elected in 2008.
Oh, wait...

Maybe a shot across Iran's bow
Let's see how they respond
Call Bush's bluff or so they may believe

I've been very upset at Bush for not doing something about this more than a year ago when we first positively identified this. Maybe he'll "get her done" now.

I’ve been upset as well, as have most Freepers.
I’ve often posed the question: What part of the Bush Doctrine does Bush not understand?

He should go nation-leveling until October and bring the troops home victorious in time for thanksgiving and christmas.

Ahhhh, the double-edge sword. We complain if the media goes too far in announcing air strikes. Then some goofus complains if the media doesn't comment.
Just maybe no big deal was made of this to protect our troops involved. Remember "Loose Lips Sink Ships"?
Personally, I'd rather not publicize our military's plans. Although we all want to play "war" while sitting at our computer, best to simply read the news, and keep to ourselves our projected thoughts, especially when it comes to possible attacks on our enemies.

I heard this on Curtis & Kuby this morning.
My question is: Why not declare Iran as a terrorist country? They are aiding the Hezzbo's as well as AQ.

I saw this posted here at FR on Tuesday night and waited for the fallout yesterday. It just seemed to blow by everyone including the conservative talk show hosts, but it’s a big story and, if you ponder it a while, you see the far reaching implications. It’s kind of a slick way to go to war with a certain nation’s army without declaring war on that certain nation, which is essentially what they have done to us by covertly using the Republican Guard in Iraq and elsewhere.

I've been very upset at Bush for not doing something about this more than a year ago when we first positively identified this. Maybe he'll "get her done" now.The biggest obstacle which the President must overcome in order to do this is the tremendous opposition from the stability fetishists in the State Department and CIA. These are the same ones who have opposed, undermined and sabotaged his efforts for years, e.g. the leaks, the Plame episode, etc. Before he can strike Iran he must first win the internal, invisible battle at home.
To: alice_in_bubbaland
The answer is simple...we don’t have the manpower to take them on

If he does it, he probably won't be re-elected in 2008. It would be good for the Dems, though. They've already stated that they are going to run against him in '08. Bush is falling right into their trap.

Uhmm... we have declared Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism for years... for exactly the reason you mentioned. However declaring a particular group of the Iranian regime forces (the revoltiunary guards) as terrorist gives a better definiton to target them.
We no longer have to present intelligence and evidence for Iran-terror ties, as we did with Iraq, since the Revolutionary Guards are an visible, open and undeniable part of the regime. (Although the same is true for Hezbullah.)
To: wtc911
No ones is advocating a ground invasion. We have enough Naval and Air Power to obliterate their military, infrastructure and WMD facilities. We ain’t gonna send troops into Iran.
