Giuliani: I Misspoke About Ground Zero
Breitbart.com ^ | August. 10, 2007 | Libby Quaid

WASHINGTON (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani said Friday that he misspoke when he said he spent as much time, if not more, at ground zero exposed to the same health risks as workers combing the site after the Sept. 11 attacks. "I think I could have said it better," he told nationally syndicated radio host Mike Gallagher. "You know, what I was saying was, 'I'm there with you.'"

The former New York mayor struck a nerve with firefighters and police officers when he said Thursday in Cincinnati that he was at ground zero "as often, if not more, than most of the workers."

"I was there working with them. I was exposed to exactly the same things they were exposed to. So in that sense, I'm one of them," he told reporters at a Los Angeles Dodgers-Cincinnati Reds baseball game.

Fire and police officials responded angrily, saying Giuliani did not do the same work as those involved in the rescue, recovery and cleanup from the 2001 terrorist attacks, which left many workers sick and injured.

"I have a real problem with that statement," said Battalion Chief John McDonnell, head of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association in New York. "I think he's really grasping and trying to justify his previous attempts to portray himself as the hero of 9/11."

On Friday, Giuliani said he was trying to show his concern for the workers' health.

"What I was trying to say yesterday is that I empathize with them, because I feel like I have that same risk," he said.

"There were people there less than me, people on my staff, who already have had serious health consequences, and they weren't there as often as I was," Giuliani said, "but I wasn't trying to suggest a competition of any kind, which is the way it come across."

Giuliani's explanation further angered his ground zero critics, prompting several to issue a statement demanding an apology.

"He is such a liar, because the only time he was down there was for photo ops with celebrities, with politicians, with diplomats," said deputy fire chief Jimmy Riches, who spent months digging for his firefighter son.

"On 9/11 all he did was run. He got that soot on him, and I don't think he's taken a shower since."

I can only add that I was home and watching TV for the week following 9/11 and Rudy was always there sucking up the National coverage.

The most dangerouns place to be after the towers fell on 9/11 was between Rudy Giuliani and a TV camera or microphone.

Voters should keep in mind: when Rooty Giuliani mentions the WOT and his so-called 9/11 "credentials," he is preparing to profit bigtime off the US government (that's us, the taxpayers).

The Washington Post recently reported that one of his companies, Giuliani Capital Advisors "was sold for an undisclosed amount as Giuliani was preparing his run for president." The Post article also discloses that Giuliani’s secretive lobbying firm, Giuliani Partners, has made more than $100 million over the last five years and that Giulaini's clients "are required to sign confidentiality agreements, so they do not comment about the work they receive or how much they are paying for it.

Though now running for president, Giuliani refuses to identify his clients, disclose his compensation, or reveal any details about Giuliani Partners. He also declined to be interviewed about the firm."

The paper provided some details, based "on a review of corporate, government and court records, along with scores of interviews with clients and government officials who have interacted with Giuliani Partners."

COMMENTS As a PR gimmick, Giuliani sold one of the several businesses he is involved in, which revolve around investment banking, global security, and international legal representation. Giuliani companies (that we know of) include:

(1) Giuliani Capital Advisors, LLC (AKA Giuliani Partners LLC),
(2) Giuliani Group,
(3) Giuliani-Kerik (re-named Giuliani Security and Safety, after the departure of the tainted ex-Police Commissioner),
(4) Giuliani-Van Essen,
(5) Bracewell & Giuliani LLP law firm (based in Texas with global interests), and
(6) Giuliani Security & Safety, Asia

ALMATY, Kazakhstan -- LAWFUEL - Law News, US Law Firms -- Bracewell & Giuliani LLP closed three cases in January for a total of US $1.625 billion, acting as international counsel for the offering of corporate debt and solidifying their place as the premier legal authority on Kazakhstani business affairs in the Caspian region. “We continue to thrive and grow in Kazakhstan, mirroring the country itself,” said Greg Vojack, managing partner for the firm's offices in Kazakhstan. “As Kazakhstan transitions into a prosperous free marketplace after the fall of Soviet Russia, its fine-tuned monetary policies are helping the country’s financial sectors grow faster than New York.” ~snip~

Established in 1994, Bracewell's presence in the Republic of Kazakhstan has helped clients capture significant opportunities in the Caspian Region. The firm's energy and finance attorneys provided groundbreaking guidance to create the legal and financial infrastructure in that emerging nation and today actively advise energy and financial companies in the region and the government of Kazakhstan. ~snip~

MORE BACKGROUND Giuliani firm has Venezuela ties

The law firm headlined by presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani does business with a company tied to Venezuelan leader Hugo Chávez, who has called President Bush ``the devil.'' Bracewell & Giuliani lobbies on behalf of Texas-based Citgo Petroleum, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Venezuelan oil company controlled by Chávez. The Bush administration said last year that Venezuela was ''not cooperating fully'' with antiterrorism efforts, stopping one step short of grouping the country with state sponsors of terrorism like Iran, Syria and Cuba. Giuliani, the former New York City mayor best known for his leadership after the Sept. 11 terrorism attacks, does not personally lobby for Citgo, though he is a senior partner at the firm and shares in its profits. Global Rooty can't seem to get the message----a candidate who does not perceive issues through the prism of the red, white, and blue, gets his walking papers. So, let me be the first to tell Rooty----"thanks, but no thanks."

Kinda reminds me of Jessie Jackass Jackson rubbing blood all over himself after MLK was shot. Rudy IS truly dishonest AND despicable, and anyone who wears a dress and kisses another male IS disgusting.

I truly despise the practice of trying to parse every word that a candidate says and then read a ton of stuff into it. Giuliani misspoke. I’ve misspoke at times too. We all have. He clarified it, end of story.

Rooty should learn the old trusim: " Be careful who you step on, on the way up, b/c you're going to meet them on the way down."
