Everyone I know sends money back home."

Well, Mr. Villanueva, that's because everyone YOU know is an ILLEGAL ALIEN. And, I noted that you called a foreign country HOME, and you know what? I agree --that's your home.

GO HOME.

Ever see how much extra is charged on a hotel room? That's a tax, essentially. And that's because it's levied by city voters mostly on people from OUTSIDE the city, who do not vote in that city.

Hey, these invaders don't vote (legally) here, so I see no reason why the remittance tax should not be...50% or higher.

I really don't.

A few Latino immigrants who attended Tuesday's forum, held at the offices of New Labor, an immigrant labor-rights group, said they wire money through Bank of America, which sends the money for free provided one has an account with the bank.

I call BS... I left BoA because the wire transfers were much higher than the Boeing Employee's Credit Union. BoA charges $45 for an international wire transfer, flat fee. Its not free at all, and it's a lot more than Western Union until you're over $3000.

As far as bank accounts go, foreign nationals can open them up here without a problem; just provide proof of identification. This is pretty much true worldwide - a passport, visa, or official ID card and some cash is all that's needed to open an account.

An even better idea. Mr. Villanueva should just hand deliver the cash to his buddies in Mexico.

Bank of America has a program called SafeSend. No fees if you are sending to Mexico. They do not require a passport or visa, they will accept the Mexican Counsulate ID, plus one other form of ID. All you need is a personal checking account with Bank of America.

How long has that program been in place? I'm suddenly recalling the uproar over the issuance of credit cards to people without the normal ID requirements...

I think the SafeSend program started in 2002. Oh yes, the credit cards for people with no social security number or credit history.

Well, they could save on the fees if they just took the money back to their home country themselves.

If there’s one tax I’ll support, it’ll be a tax, and a hefty one, on wires to Latin America.

Boo hoo. It’s the same rate everyone else that uses the service has to pay.

Not really. That $14.99 per $1000 to send money to Mexico is but 1/3rd of what I pay to send $500 via Western Union to my wife in Ukraine every month while we wait out her pending legal immigration.

I'm pretty sure the large fees I pay to Western Union help subsidize the low fees for transfers sent to Mexico.

I have a great idea.

The taxpayers should subsidize lower fees to facilitate the export of wealth from our country!

Be a moron, vote Democrat.

I would imagine that the difference in rates between countries is affected by regulations and fees at the country of destination. Mexico probably makes it as cheap and easy as possible for Western Union to transfer money into it from the US.

But that's not really what I meant. Whatever the rate to Mexico, legals in the US pay the same rate that illegals do. I read the story as subtly implying that illegals were being singled out for exhorbidant rates.

What about sending your wife a VISA card from your account here and paying the $500 into the account each month while she uses the card? Is it possible that it could work out to a lower cost?

HOLD UP THERE!!!

According to a study conducted by the Inter-American Development Bank last October, Latino immigrants working in the United States sent around $45 billion to their homelands in 2006, up from some $30 billion in 2004.

So...there was a 50% increase in the amount of cash wired in just 2 years.

And yet, they have been using that "12 million illegals" number since 2000.

IOW, those 12 million have experienced quite a rise in their incomes, right?

/sarcasm

According to a study conducted by the Inter-American Development Bank last October, Latino immigrants working in the United States sent around $45 billion to their homelands in 2006, up from some $30 billion in 2004.

Keep in mind that the US (that's us, the taxpayers) provides the nuclear defense umbrella to protect Mexico, so that Mexico has no real defense expenses. We need to let Mexico know that we will cut off every penny in US aid unless they do something about border security.

Mexico can well-afford it. Mexico is a wealthy oil-producing neighbor and has eleven "Forbes" billionaires, more than all but eight other nations. Mexico has more billionaires than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland or Taiwan. It also has more than 85,000 millionaires. It's telecommunications king---Carlos Slim has displaced Bill Gates as the world's richest man.

According to a CNN report, Mexico sits on oil reserves worth about $400 billion, but Mexico's state-owned oil company, Pemex, doesn't have the investment funds to tap those reserves, and Mexico's Congress refuses to allow foreign investment in Pemex. Some observers say this is due to Mexican gov't corruption, and the obsession to line their own pockets.

Adding insult to injury American taxpayers are subsidizing foreign aid transfers to Mexico from its lettuce pickers and hamburger flippers here. The percentage corrupt Mexican politicans are getting from this $30-45 billion bundle must be considerable (or else it would be stopped).

America should mandate proof for all cash transfers out of the US and/or force all transferring agencies -- banks, credit unions, Amex, Western Union to collect a substantial withholding tax -- 50%, say -- on every unexplained foreign remittance.

The government of Mexico---with all of its oil revenue----needs to be pitching in to protect the borders (AND taking care of its own people, not "outsourcing' them as wards of American taxpayers).

While Mexicans are reconquering whole areas of the US-----the govt of Mexico TIGHTENED their borders, and toughened their immigration laws so they don't have to put up with situation they are foisting on us.

It's an outrage that US citizens are socked with the costs of subsidizing freeloading illegal Mexican citizens, and we are forced to put-up a multi-billion dollar fence, and hire law enforcement to keep these invaders off our land. We get all the grief AND the bills---Mexico gets off scot-free. That has to end.

We know our politicians are pandering idiots. We demand they obey the constitution they were sworn to uphold. We demand they do something about legal American citizens losing their savings/homes/futures.........while freeloading illegal invaders own homes in the countries they emanated from, have cash in the bank, and are sponging-off US citizens.

Western Union is conducting a large scale money laundering operation WRT the export of this cash. The money was derived from illegal activities in this country. Western Union is aiding in the hiding and conversion of this cash to legitimate funds. ALL international WU money transfers need to be filtered and siezed as necessary to stop this theft from the USA.

An e-x-c-e-l-l-e-n-t contribution to the immig debate.

Report money laundering and tax evasion as follows;

----------------

FYI

(1) The US Social Security system is being looted by illegals using multiple SS numbers and ID theft.

(2) The NY Times reported Mexicans who once worked here with valid SS numbers, then returned to Mexico, actually rent out their SS numbers so other illegals can pocket $3500 Earned Income Tax refunds.

(3) Illegals here get paid under the table, don't pay taxes, and send billions of US dollars back to their corrupt countries.

(4) A widely-used SS# scheme: the illegals name their anchor baby the same name as the parent. They obtain a valid SS# for the anchor baby; the parent uses it, no one checks beyond name-matching, if that.

(5) CNN's Lou Dobbs reported illegals are stealing small childrens' SS# because a child doesn't use a number very often so it is near impossible to detect a stolen number.

(6) Dobbs also mentioned that business owners give illegals SS# of a previous employee (it is not a felony to give away SS#s but it is a felony to use them).

(7) Another twist. Now illegals don't have to use rented or fake SS# because they've just been granted the right to collect SocSec if they have worked a short time (44 months I think), whereas legit American citizens have to work for far longer before collecting.

Thanks to conniving invaders, pretty soon American senior citizens will be on the "Mexican retirement system"---selling sticks of chewing gum on street corners.

Lurkers step #3 for ending illegal immigration:

Slap an immediate 100% Federal excise tax on all wire transfers to Central and South America unless that transfer is going to a bona fide US Embassy where it will be picked up by a bona fide US citizen.

End of problem.
