Media Matters for America: Soros-Funded Watchdog Attacks Conservatives
Capital Research Center ^ | July 2007 | Rondi Adamson

Media Matters For America was created by David Brock, a self-described “hit man,” self-confessed liar, and gossip peddler. His past casts a shadow over his current self-proclaimed dedication to truth-telling. Previously he viciously attacked Clintons and Bushes, Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas, Rush Limbaugh and National Public Radio, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. Each time he recants a prior assault he lunges out at a new political enemy.

Brock puts himself in the position of someone who says, “I’m a liar. Believe what I tell you.” Journalist Christopher Hitchens wrote Brock “is incapable of recognizing the truth, let alone of telling it.”

MMFA was created in spring 2004 in time for the presidential election campaign. It promotes itself as an online watchdog protecting the public from the deceptions and errors of the mass media, which has let itself be bullied or blinded by conservatives. MMFA proclaims itself the only organization brave enough and smart enough to call out the liars, the twisters of the truth and the purveyors of “misinformation” who are leading astray a naive, foolish public.

In fact, MMFA is a cog in the growing machine of “progressive” activist and advocacy nonprofits, including the online radical agitators at MoveOn.org, and the liberal policy wonks at the Center for American Progress. These groups were obsessed with defeating President Bush in the 2004 election. Having failed, they have grown increasingly angry and determined to drive the Bush administration out of office.

MMFA has a staff of 59. Its employees have at various times worked for Al Gore, John Edwards, Barney Frank, Wesley Clark, the National Organization for Women (NOW), the Center for American Progress, Greenpeace, the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Association of Trial Lawyers of Americae...

The left accuses the MSM of being biased toward the right in order to force them even further left that they already are. As their audience dwindles the left will be forced to just talk among themselves.

Wasn’t Rush saying yesterday that Mrs. Billy Clinton said that she invented Media Matters?

From Rush on Monday:
HILLARY: We are certainly better prepared and more focused on, you know, taking our arguments and making them effective and disseminating them widely and really putting together a network in the blogosphere, in a lot of the new progressive infrastructure, institutions that I helped to start and support, like Media Matters and Center for American Progress. We're beginning to match what I have said for years was the advantage of the other side. You know, when I made that comment, about the vast right-wing conspiracy, I wasn't kidding.

RUSH: What did I hear there, she admits to starting Media Matters? Now, I've told you this, it's a Clinton front organization. David Brock is slavish to Mrs. Clinton, and George Soros has got some funding in there, but she set it up. The Center for American Progress, John Podesta runs it, a think tank, he's a former Clinton chief of staff. Now, The Center for American Progress just happens to be this independent organization that issued this report saying talk radio is unfairly balanced and we need the Fairness Doctrine. And of course we all know that Media Matters is. They're just a bunch of bought and paid for Clinton hacks. Of course, the Drive-Bys don't tell us that. The Drive-Bys report them as an independent watchdog agency. So she admits it.
