Sergio Estebon Ramirez, 20, was taken into custody late tonight and arrested on multiple charges including first-degree attempted murder of a police officer.

A $1 million warrant was issued for his arrest.

Ramirez is accused in the July 29 shooting of Glenwood Springs Police officer at an automobile impound lot near the Glenwood Springs Airport.

The officer gave verbal commands to two men when they were walking away, but one of the men turned and fired multiple gunshots from a handgun, hitting the officer once in the chest from around 10 to 20 feet away. The officer returned gunshots as the men fled but didn’t know if he hit either man, police said.

A bulletproof vest helped the officer from sustaining serious injuries.

Nah. I am sure everything was perfectly legal.

Oh, wait the "legitimization bill" didn't pass.

I read 5 articles on this story, not one mentioned immigration status. One did say this:

“Investigators believe the men may have been burglarizing cars in the city impound lot when they were spotted by two police officers. Police said one of the suspects was involved in a gun battle with the officers.”

and another one: “According to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records, Ramirez has been arrested eight times since February 2004 on charges ranging from driving under the influence to resisting arrest to auto theft.

Ramirez, the records show, has been arrested in Glenwood Springs, Parachute, Rifle and Fremont County.”
