House consider new oil company taxes

By H. JOSEF HEBERT, Associated Press Writer 16 minutes ago

Declaring a new direction in energy policy, the House on Saturday edged toward passing $16 billion in taxes on oil companies and offering tax breaks and incentives for renewable energy and conservation efforts.

Republican opponents said the legislation ignores the need to produce more domestic oil, natural gas and coal. One GOP lawmaker bemoaned "the pure venom ... against the oil and gas industry."

Yet as the Democratic-controlled House began debating energy proposals, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, "We are turning to the future."

Pelosi, D-Calif., said it was essential to commit to renewable energy such as wind power and energy from biomass while also reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Doing so, she said, will help address global warming and make the country more energy independent.

"It's about our children, about our future, the world in which they live," Pelosi said.

She has pledged to have the House pass energy legislation before lawmakers depart this weekend for a monthlong vacation.

Just the way to encourage more oil exploration... raise taxes on oil companies.

You are referring to the Americans that voted the Democrats into office aren’t you?

Because without the fools and idiots that vote[ed]for them, the Democrats can do nothing.

If the Democrats get their way, the United States will not be even a third world power. They think that it won’t effect them but it will.

Yeah.... that should keep the trade deficit exploding exponentially, along with driving energy companies’ headquarters overseas — along with indefinitely being heavily dependent on foreign TERRORIST crude oil imports.

Exactly. Oil companies will simply pass the cost of these taxes on to consumers in the form of higher fuel prices.

Pelosi makes me sick.

Let's make one thing clear! The Democrats are NOT taxing the oil companies. They are CONFISCATING profits!

Hillary Tells America She will CONFISCATE Oil Profits

"The other day the oil companies recorded the highest profits in the history of the world. I want to take those profits. And I want to put them into a strategic energy fund that will begin to fund alternative smart energy, alternatives and technologies that will actually begin to move us in the direction of independence."

Corn prices are at a historically high $4 a bushel, with a record 93 million acres planted in the US. Ethanol subsidies are not paid to farmers, but they do increase demand for corn and thus drive the price up. Ethanol is the primary driver in the increase in corn prices, and at the current price, farmers are choosing to plant corn over other crops.

If it's for the children, then we need to get behind Pelosi's efforts. After all it's for the children.

This morning on the business shows on Fox - they said taxes are going up - get ready.

All of you who sat home and did not vote - I'll be glad to let you pay mine. You get what you vote/don't vote for.

Think about this. Oil companies do not pay taxes. Inanimate objects do not pay taxes.

I was in business many years. And my company never paid taxes.
