They number not in the thousands, or tens of thousands, but in the hundreds of thousands. They are two-faced, feigning cooperation except when we turn our backs.
On this point I do agree with McCain, and believe the Adminstration was guided by the Sesame Street "surgical strike" mindset popularized under Bill Clinton in not hitting hard enough and declaring the opening phase complete prematurely.
Winning will be tough now, and will demand we make better decisions about local on-the-ground alliances based on more and better intelligence. Impossible, no. But pulling out wastes a golden opportunity to establish forward bases in the region and begin looking toward the Mullahs to the east.

Yes, it’s leftist drivel for the most part. But the last couple of paragraphs are salient, except he seems blind in his moaning to the fact that just such a war hero besides McCain is running - except that this war hero plans to WIN the war, which is perhaps why Duncan Hunter’s name is conspicuously absent. Hey, if he can mention Hagel, who has no support, he can at least mention Hunter, who has some.
The media talking heads have their opinions which are filtered through their desire for certain leaders to take control of this country.
I don't believe for one minute that the McCain supporters in the liberal media want him to be president. I think they believe, probably rightly, that he cannot defeat whoever the Dems put up. More importantly, I think they support him because it allows them to say they are "fair" because they praise a Republican who supports the war.
Yet, they support him because they are all swoony with their "Greatest Generation" BS. I'm not saying the WW2 generation weren't great, I'm saying the mythology the Brokaws and Russerts and Matthewses are foisting over is longing for the days when FDR was in charge and made everything perfect. McCain is somehow linked to this dreamy past because of his attitude and the fact that he doesn't like Bush, and he seems to FEEL like a WW2-era type.
This writer is one of those who's always claiming to be so unbiased, yet he coincidentally always supports the Dems and is against Republicans--except for McCain, of course, who's harmless. For once I'd love to see one of these guys support someone else on the right, who's a conservative and pro-war, but without the camera-love.

What I’m remembering is how these guys were mocking the surge—NOW they’re saying it’s not going on long enough! This guy’s a riot. Self-righteousness mixed with kneejerk hatred for Bush—a winning combo at Newsweek!
Is the state of McCain’s campaign due to public reaction or to the MSM ignoring because he disagrees with their view of the war.
Thank you Sen. McCain for what you have done in the military. The message here is that leaving only 80% of the Bill of Rights is your legacy.
John McCain served honorably, and I for one appreciate his duty to his nation.
His campaign is floundering because he has betrayed his CIC too many times (Gang of 14, Immigration, and his consequent whoring to the press) and has likewise betrayed the conservative cause, beginning in my recollection at least with his 2000 campaign. Also, he’s old, he’s tired, and he doesn’t excite anyone.
Could I vote for him if he were to get the nomination, based on my convictions? Barely. Certainly not with enthusiasm. I have yet to meet a single openly pro-McCain Freeper on FR, who’s on fire about his campaign like I am about Hunter’s, or like 2ndDivisionVet is about Thompson’s.

These creeps who just repeat these myths about Bush and his draft record, Bush and Cheney challenging Kerry’s war record, etc have NEVER come up with even one quoute to back up their facts. They assume the Swift Boat guys were in Bush’s pocket, or they saw that whole campaign as one big right wing conspiracy against Kerry. GWB even said in one of the debates “we honor Sen Kerry for his service.” He could have trashed Kerry for what he did after the war, but they never made an issue of it. I think they should have.
