63rd co-sponsor signs on to FairTax Act of 2007
Americans For Fair Taxation ^ | July 20, 2007

Posted on 07/23/2007 4:15:26 AM PDT by Man50D

Congressman Rob Bishop (UT-1) became the newest co-sponsor of the Fair Tax Act on July 17, 2007. When asked why he signed on as a co-sponsor, Congressman Bishop said, "Taxes are too high and our tax system is way too complicated, so changing that must be a top priority for all of us. I'm happy to co-sponsor HR 25 and I applaud the folks at Americans for Fair Taxation for their efforts to champion the cause of tax reform. The best system is one that lets Americans keep more of their own money and that is straightforward, simple, and transparent. I think the fair tax plan would take care of all of those criteria, and I'm proud to support it."

Some of our Utah grassroots supporters actively worked with the congressman and his staff in the effort to get him to sign on. This has been a successful process again and again, and we know it will be the grassroots that make this happen around the country. Over the last few months, our grassroots campaign has been growing rapidly. Many new supporters have taken active roles in spreading the word throughout their state.

As we have previously stated, we are working to educate the presidential candidates on the FairTax. However, it is essential that our current elected officials understand and support our issue, for they will be the ones who ultimately pass the bill and send it along to our new president.

We welcome Congressman Bishop to the FairTax team! We are pleased to add your name to our Co-Sponsor Gallery and look forward to having you as a strong advocate for real tax reform!

Hey I just had an exchange with another freeper on the internaional effects of the Fairtax. The oficial sie doesn’t go into it much, and the book only mentions it in passing, but I believe that it’s a HUGE aspect of the overall plan, and a potential marketing tool that will convince many people to support it.

Do you know of any analysis on this? If there isn’t any, it needs to be written.

If this passes, I'm taking my savings and moving to the Cayman Islands. NO WAY am I paying tax on my already-overtaxed savings a THIRD time -- which is what this is all about -- just so you business owners can get a totally free ride on your business operations!!!

Just take your savings and invest it. Then you’ll have more savings.

Welcome to the club, bud.

Look- taxation of income sucks, period. The solution isn't continuing on with it. We have to stop it somehow.

taxing income is not a law. its unconstitutional, yet we ALL continue to pay. we should be telling all of our congress members to eliminate the b/s income tax and their would be no reason for a fair tax act. congress just having fun with us.

23% is too high. The AMT is “only” 26% and crazily high IMHO. Retail taxes won’t hit the underground economy.

With the way our Government spends money, there is no way this can be revenue neutral.

The Fair Tax is not intended to lower taxes. What it will do is simplify the tax laws and make the entire tax collection process less costly. If the Federal Government spends less money collecting taxes, they will find another place to spend the extra money. The last place it will ever land in back in our pockets.

Okay, seriously- hold on a minute and think about this.

Take your savings and imagine investing it under a national sales tax. Drop it into American industry, or a tech company, or something like that. Remember, we instantly become a tax haven for businesses, so we’ll draw all kinds of foreign capital to our shores.

The business environment suddenly changes, and if you have your money invested, it expands very quickly. If you play it right, you’ll end up with much more than you have now, as it generates a flow of income for you.

But let’s talk about rig now- If I were you, I’d be taking that wad of cash and buying precious metals with it, or a different currency. The dollar is getting gutted as we speak, because we’re on fiat currency and because we’re getting softened up for the Amero.

You should be screaming just as loud about that, because it’s actually happening. This is still just a bill that the globalists are opposed to, it’s got a ways to go yet.

You may not be aware the effective tax rate (after the prebate) will lower the tax rate on average to 15%. You are correct that retail sales taxes won't effect the underground economy but neither does the current income tax. The Fair Tax will drastically reduce the underground as people will still have to make a certain amount of purchases legally pay the tax at the point of sale.

I hope that we look to Norway before we go whole hog on this bad proposal. the proponents see what they want to see, btu the reality exists in norway, and it ain’t pleasant.

another method of taxation is merely another pocket for the government to pick. either way the taxpayers lose, the government confgulates itself on being clever, and government spends more.

remember: the elites favored communism, btu the reality was far different from their dreams...

Thanks for the news, Man50D.

63 eh? I wonder how many more will be picked up in this Congress? Is the goal 100?

Georgia is all on board except for John Louis, ultra liberal, IIRC. Georgis is just waiting for other states to catch up!...

Most decisions are made on the basis of the marginal rate. A low effective rate and a high marginal rate would seem to be backwards. Abolishing the IRS and tax accountants/lawyers would be a definite plus for the economy and save me a day or two per year.

Collecting the sales tax is not without placing a drag on the economy.

Not that it is likely to happen, but reducing the size of gov't would be better.

Btu, Btu, Btu Norge has a VAT not a “fair” tax. Altogether different. ;-)

It is completely different. There’s no way to know how much tax is built into the cost of any item with a VAT.

With a RETAIL ONLY sales tax, you absolutely know how much the item is, and how much the tax is. It’s right on the receipt. The effect is a population who’s keenly aware of how expensive government is- and it’s reinforced every time someone purchases something taxable.

A VAT is a brilliant way to hide taxation and government costs from the average citizen.

just wait till these folks get their “Fair tax”. then we’ll have a “Fair tax” AND an income tax. AND we’ll be paying a whole lot more.

CT enacted an income tax and promised to end the sales tax. didn’t happen. then two casinos appeared and pour millions into state coffers. yet we continue to pay a high income tax AND the sales tax is where it was before.

the people of CT were stupid to allow this to happen, but everybody listen to the siren songs of the proponents, and nobody figured out the reality of the situation.

if these folks beleive that the income tax will go away, then I have a bridge in brooklyn they can buy cheap.

fool me once, shame onyou, foll me twice, shame on me.
