Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. "Wear Red" Friday

You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Lord, We thank You for those who are serving in our armed forces. Each day they are making brave sacrifices so that our country can remain strong and free. Keep them safe under the shelter of Your wings. And Lord, for their families back home——whose loving support enables our armed forces, to do all that they are called on to do——we ask that You comfort them and give them Your peace...the peace that passes all understanding. Amen

I am still tired from our train trip. I do not think I have ever walked so much or seen so much beautiful scenery. This is something that we will always remember.

We flew to Seattle on the 3rd and stayed there until the 8th. On the 6th we took the ferry over to San Juan Island to whale watch. They live near the beach and that was one of the best memories we will have. I had my binoculars with me and let a little boy use them and he was thrilled. We got on the bus to take us to Tacoma on the 8th to get on the train. It is the GrandLuxe which use to be the American Orient Express. We then went to see the animals at a reserve near there. After that we went to Mt. Rainier and that was wonderful.

Our next spot was Steven’s Pass which is the longest tunnel in the US and is in the Cascade Mtns. I think they said it was nearly 8 miles long. I was very glad to get out of that.
The next day was Coeur d’Alene, ID. That day was a boat trip and a meal at the floating restaurant. I did not go on that because I was just hurting too much. Everyone loved that.

After that it was Glacier National Park where we rode the Jammers. I think that was my favorite part of the trip. From there we went to Helena, MT to tour the Capitol and a museum. We went through the Capitol but went on to the Museum and we were glad that we did. We really loved that place and seeing all of the exhibits.

From MT, we went to Yellowstone and saw Old Faithful erupt on schedule. After touring that, we went on by bus to The Grand Tetons where we stayed at the Jackson Lake Lodge which was very nice. We had a special last dinner at the museum there. Nearly everyone left the next day but we stayed an extra day at the Wort Hotel in Jackson Hole and we really enjoyed that. We could walk to the shops, galleries, etc. We went to the square to see the Shootout which was very well done. That night we went to see Seven Brides for Seven Brothers which we really, really enjoyed. I had seen parts of it but never the whole show.

We got home Tuesday night about 10 PM. On our flight from Memphis to HSV, we had some Marines and soldiers with us. When we were walking from the gate to pick up our luggage, we saw a crowd of people with flags and signs welcoming them to our city. That was the most touching.

All it all, we had a marvelous time and are so glad that we got to do this. We all are so glad to be home after being gone so long.

Communion On The Moon

Apollo 11 landed on the surface of the moon on Sunday, July 20, 1969. Most of us are familiar with Armstrong’s historic statement as he stepped onto the moon’s surface: “That’s one small step for a man; one giant leap for mankind.” But few know about the first meal eaten there.

Buzz Aldrin had brought aboard the spacecraft a tiny communion kit provided by his church. Aldrin sent a radio broadcast to earth asking listeners to contemplate the events of that day and to give thanks.

Then, in radio blackout for privacy, Aldrin poured wine into a silver chalice. He read, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit” (John 15:5). Silently, he gave thanks and partook of the bread and cup.

God is everywhere, and our worship should reflect this reality. In Psalm 139 we are told that wherever we go, God is intimately present with us. Buzz Aldrin celebrated that experience on the surface of the moon. Thousands of miles from earth, he took time to commune with the One who created, redeemed, and fellowshiped with him.

Are you far from home? Do you feel as if you’re on a mountaintop or in a dark valley? No matter what your situation, God’s fellowship is only a prayer away.

God’s presence with us is one of His greatest presents to us.

I'm jealous, sounds like a trip I'd really enjoy too ;). I'd love to see the whales. Do you have any pictures you could post? I'd be as thrilled as that little boy. :) I'd be glad to get out of that tunnel too. LOL Your entire trip sounds absolutey fantastic.

What a magnificent ending to your trip seeing soldiers welcomed home. That would bring tears to my eyes. :)
