BRISTOL - Trinity Episcopal Church could be called a house divided: Its defrocked pastor led a heavily attended prayer and song service at the church Wednesday night, while Episcopal Bishop Andrew Smith tried to muster parishioners to meet with a new pastor at a church in Plainville.
Smith promoted his meeting in a letter to parishioners last week as a way to discuss the dispute between Trinity and the Episcopal Diocese and "begin to identify new leadership for the parish so that we can move forward in our life in Christ within the doctrine, discipline and worship of The Episcopal Church."

Some of my ancestors have got to be spinning in their graves. I know my great grandmother is.
Sadly, I recognize the bishop-speak all too well.... brings back old memories in another denomination.
A brief history of another denomination:
Liberal-conservative split, conservatives grow, liberals decline and come crawling back.
Reunification.
(repeat 2x)
Bad link, and so poorly excerpted I can’t tell why the split occurred.
I don't think the heretical leadership has thought this through. After throwing bushels of money at the lawyers, they're going to wind up with a bunch of empty buildings, which will require even more bushels of money for upkeep and maintenance. And they won't be getting any money from the ex-parishioners.
I suppose they can sell the churches for nightclubs or condos . . . .
This is pretty old news. Even the reporters figure that everybody in Hartford knows about this one by now. And of course all Piskies and ex-Piskies are following the story.
Yes the Bishops service drew 12 people the so called breakaway traditionalist flocks service drew seventy people. Whos out of touch here?
IIRC, this congregation voted almost unanimously to leave ECUSA . . . something like 98 percent.
Shouldn’t somebody be starting a ‘Christainity Death Watch?”
“I suppose they can sell the churches for nightclubs or condos . . . “
Or mosques!
“Here’s the live link:”
It was instructive to look at the comments. They sure do have a bunch of religion-haters there. Worse yet, they have no clue what they hate, having never taken the time to learn the faith.
The worldwide Anglican Communion (of which ECUSA is a member in daily risk of being excommunicated) is doing quite well, thank you.
So is our Church. And so are the orthodox Bible-believing Evangelicals as well.
The actual count was nine at the bishop’s meeting; three from his office, two from the Church who were there just to monitor, one who was there to find out why her deceased husband received the notice, two elderly ladies who hadn’t been to the church in over ten years and wanted to see who the bishop was and one of their nephews who didn’t go to church but was driving them to the meeting. There were none there from which he could form a new vestry,
The 70 plus at the worship and prayer service are committed to go on even if they lose the building. They will be joining my church (an E-Free Church) for a picnic and prayer service in a couple of weeks. We are committed to pray and assist them through this time.

Why not share your building as well? I mean, if you have a 10:00 service, could they have an 11:15 service in the same place?
It is possible for 2 congregations to share the same building — even if one is Presbyterian and one is Hindu! I’ve seen it work!
The vote at the parish meeting on Jan. 29 was 57-1. Snickersnee knows because he was one of the ballot-counters! Proud to be an Anglican!
When our homeless Presbyterian congregation needed a home, a struggling inner city Baptist church helped us out. We met at 9:30, they met at 11:00, we swapped out on classroom space, and both congregations benefited.
“Why not share your building as well?”
They are an hour away from our church and we have managed to keep them in their building. Court proceedings are just starting and it will be some time before a decision will be made as to the owners of the property.
(Even SCOTUS eventually ruled against Howard's bike path mania as legislation as a violation of the takings clause. Took them about 20 years, but they still did it.)
Howard also signed the VT Civil Unions bill in a closet, away from the public, and reporters.
I can't understand why V. Gene Robinson was even considered, let alone installed as a bishop.
First of all, he left his family for, in his case, a guy.
Second, he flaunts his gayness. For health concerns alone, that's not a great choice for a leader.
And lastly, he hasn't been able to control his alcoholism.
What recommends him as an upstanding moral leader to what ever branch of Christianity? No family values, and a double whammy on destructive behavior.
I bet he doesn't smoke. That's about the only thing that would have black-balled him. Or if he ever voted Republican.
Good luck on your fight -- hopefully you can keep the buildings and the graveyard (if you have one).
We were so "high" and all the Anglican breakaways in this area were on the "low" end of the spectrum -- so we did a quick lateral across the Tiber. But we wish you well!
