Fred will wipe the floor with Big Al. An all-Tennessee presidential race? Bring it on!! Don't be so sure. Let's see--A Vice President of a popular Administration runs for President against a little known candidate, but comes across looking wooden and non-human in the televised debates, and loses. Unhappy he is seen a couple years later, and denies he will run for President again. The 8 years after his original campaign, he does try and is elected while promising to end an unpopular war. Yeah. That could never happen.

The only problems with your well thought out scenario: a) Nixon bowed out gracefully for the good of the country, (unlike SoreLoserman)even though obvious corruption was involved (especially in Illinois & West Virginia) and b) Nixon was a highly intelligent man (some say maybe even a genius in some ways). No one in their right mind has EVER accused law and divinity school dropout Al Gore of being a genius. Example: When touring Monticello, Gore saw several busts of Jefferson and asked “who’s that guy?”
