Federal Election Commission Fines Terri Schiavo's Ex-Husband's PAC

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The Federal Election Commission in Washington has fined the political action committee created by Terri Schiavo's former husband. After ordering her painful two-week-long starvation and dehydration death in March 2005, Michael Schiavo created the PAC to target pro-life lawmakers who tried to stop him from killing her.

The TerriPAC Michael created with his brother Brian Schiavo has frequently run afoul of the federal agency by failing to file its campaign finance reports on time or include all of the necessary information.

Because TerriPAC failed to properly file its October 2006 quarterly report properly, the FEC assessed the PAC a $1,350 civil money penalty. FEC records obtained by LifeNews.com find TerriPAC eventually paid the fine.

"Monetary penalties are determined by the number of days late, the amount of financial activity involved, and any prior penalties for reporting violations," the agency says about the fines. "Election sensitive reports (reports and notices filed prior to an election) receive higher penalties."

According to letters the FEC sent TerriPAC over the last few months of 2006 and early portion of 2007, Schiavo's political group filed to file accurate financial numbers, did not adequately detail "fundraising fees" in its reports, and did not adequately detail its spending on polling, video production and printing and design work.

The agency warned that failure to provide accurate numbers would result in enforcement action.

Schiavo was very involved in the 2006 election season.

In Pennsylvania, he attacked pro-life Sen. Rick Santorum -- calling him "the only U.S. senator who flew to Florida and interfered with Terri Schiavo's private family tragedy."

He backed candidates for Congress there and also flew to Colorado and Connecticut to campaign for other candidates and headline fund-raisers on their behalf.

While Schiavo has engaged in politics, Terri's parents and family have worked full-time for their foundation which seeks to help disabled patients and their families obtain appropriate health care and treatment.

Yes, I agree. The Schindlers had done a lot of good work especially in Texas.

I haven’t heard much happening on TerrorPAc err TerriPAC these days.

Does not surprise me that he failed to file the right forms. Wonder how much of the money he pocketed? He won the battle, why can’t he just move on? It is so insulting that he formed a PAC in her name.
