The Former Front Runner: Now McCain's team is falling apart
Newsweek ^ | 7/23/07 | Richard Wolffe

Eight years ago, he was the Karl Rove of the McCain campaign: a gifted strategist from Texas who could turn a relatively unknown politician into a serious presidential candidate. John Weaver was McCain's alter ego in 2000, and after their defeat he plotted their 2008 comeback.

That was until last Tuesday morning, when his cell phone rang. Recovering from the flu, Weaver ignored the phone, thinking it was his alarm. Later he picked up the call to hear his old friend Mark Salter, McCain's chief of staff and the coauthor of the senator's best-selling autobiographies. Salter told Weaver they had lost control of the campaign: McCain had sided with their internal rival, Rick Davis. "John wants you to stay," Salter said. "I can't and won't," Weaver replied, according to an insider who didn't want to be named talking about private conversations.

Republicans, Democrats and Independents are really pissed off at the McCain-Kennedy team who tried to cram as many people as they could into the U.S. with amnesty for illegal aliens and a temporary worker plan. Unfortunately for the McCain-Kennedy team, the folks realized there is nothing temporary about temporary workers that never go home.

While the number of illegal aliens within our borders is not precisely known, most estimates range from 12 to 20 million. Unfortunately these are only ‘guesstimates’ no one actually knows how many there are. Some claim it could be 30 million or higher. If each amnestied illegal only brings in three dependents, our population could increase anywhere from 48 to 120 million and perhaps many more.

If McCain had any smarts he would be well aware of the problems we have now with overcrowding on our roads, schools, jails, courts plus power outages and water shortages due to an expanding population but unfortunately McCain is clueless.

Last seen on TV, McCain was making excuses and back pedaling on amnesty as fast as he could but the wheels had already fallen off his wagon.

No intelligent person ever considered McCain a “frontrunner” or even a contender in this race. The only people who did were journalists, who labeled him as such with no evidence whatsoever.

It wasn’t the amnesty bill and cozying up to Ted Kennedy that killed his chances but McCain/Feingold and the “gang of 14” that did the most damage. Of course the MSM has a shorter memory that the voters and those issues had already fallen off their radar. For some reason they can only concentrate on today’s issue and conveniently ignore the past blunders.

Its not just the amnesty issue at work here. Conservatives are tired of the "Gang of 14" stupidity and all of the other backstabing and grandstanding that McCain took part in for the last 8 or so years. He is now reaping what he has sown.

Now we need for Snowe, Hegel, Specter, et al to get their just desserts...

“Now we need for Snowe, Hegel, Specter, et al to get their just desserts.”

What’s sad is that the fat, drunken, bloviating, Kennedy crook will keep getting elected by the morons of Mass. even after he is dead.

It’s all about “Amnesty John” and his Democrat views on border security.

He didn’t fall by supporting the President on Iraq — everyone knew his position there.

This will be a good lesson for those other “Amnesty First” politicians — Democrat and Republican.

The Former Current Front Runner Caboose: Now McCain's team is falling apart has completely imploded.

Much better. And for the record, the only thing McCain was ever in possible front runner position for was for Senior Senate RINO.

Ditto.

No sitting Senator has ever been a “frontrunner” ,

no matter what the dominant media likes to say.

Yep.

Apparently a GOP ‘frontrunner’ is one that meets Chris Mathews approval...not that he would ever VOTE FOR HIM OR HER....

McCain’s bursting asunder in a public place and on television during the 2000 race didn’t help him, either, nor do the persistent rumors of his “legendary foul temper”. Never a frontrunner.

McCain has many failings, but we will look back and say that his stand in favor of the surge and in support of the President was a pivotal moment on our road to victory in Iraq. For that the nation will owe him a debt of gratitude. For the rest of it, not so much...

>>Last seen on TV, McCain was making excuses and back pedaling on amnesty as fast as he could but the wheels had already fallen off his wagon.<<

While with his other face he is busy sponsoring the Dream Act (allowing in-state tuition and amnesty for illegals), with co-sposors Hillary and Ted.
