NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday when Democrat Jim Webb of Virginia and Republican Lindsey Graham of South Carolina testily exchanged views on President Bush's Iraq policy and troop welfare. An impromptu troop surge debate turned into a temper surge.

"Just wash your hands of Iraq," an animated Graham said to the war critics, including the Democrat seated to his immediate right. "History will judge us, my friend."

"It's been a hard month, Lindsey," Webb commiserated, wearing a tight smile. "You need to calm down, my friend."

"Lindsey's had a hard month," Webb repeated.

"It ain't about Lindsey having a hard month," Graham snapped.

Let's just say: Lindsey was absolutely wrong about immigration.

But no one plays the role of "complete ass" like Democrat Jim Webb. This punk is about as tactful as Terry McAuliffe, and I hope to God this jerk is a one-termer from Virginia.

George Allen is a good man and was a great Senator who unfortunately got caught in an unguarded moment which was magnified ad infinitum by the MSM. Now we have Jim Webb who simply stated is an embarrassment (along with our Senile Senator, John Warner). Virginia is tilting to the left, led by the Peoples’ Republic of Northern Virginia. It’s not a question of ‘uninformed and duped feel good voters.’ Virginia has entered the Long War and I personally fear for my state.

Jim Webb, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Dick Durbin.... They're all the same and still mimicking the DNC talking points they received over 4 and a half years ago (See page http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1806352/posts#13 as a good example) and their marching orders they get from George Soros to tell them all how to say it. They all come out with the same tired bumper sticker slogans like "we need a new direction" because the fools are incapable of an original thought among any one of them and just when they're stuck in a corner, they pull an old slanted poll out of some left wing rag.

Well, I'm not impressed.

The democrat leadership reminds me of an estranged husband saying, "If I can't have her, no one will" So the democrat leadership sets out for this country to fail at everything it tries to achieve, killing this country if they have to just so they can get into power again. They prove that theory every time they open their mouths to utter what they HOPE are speeches.

Our troops in Iraq fighting the war and their leadership is saying the war is already lost. The reinforcement of troops just got into Iraq and they are crying that the surge has already failed when THEY'VE been been in power since January of this year and they have not accomplished anything what so ever with any kind of meaning to this country. They have failed at everything they have set out to do.

--Suggesting a wartime economy is the only way the administration can revive the country's lagging economic situation.

"It is clear that the current approval ratings of the administration are tied directly to strong American feelings toward traditional values," the talking points say. --Both President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are controlled by oil and defense industry special interest groups.

--The war on terrorism is a failure because Osama bin Laden is still at large.

--America is unprepared for another terrorist attack because of White House preoccupation with Iraq.

--War will increase the country's economic woes.

--Bush will be forced to raise taxes to finance the war.

"It's time to take the battle to the people and make them understand just how dangerous George W. Bush's policies are to the future of America," the talking points conclude.

Did any of that sound familiar to you?

I am NOT talking about just idealogical differences here, I am talking about the Democrat party outwardly undermining this country's domestic and foreign policies even to go as far as to throw a war just for political agenda and influences.

In my mind, this is not just an act of political rivalry but and acts of traitors of this country.

I lived in N.VA from 91-96, and the trend was GOP. I think GOP will come back in VA. Will George Allen run for the Senate again, or perhaps Governor? If he doesn’t run, what are Gilmore’s chances?

I certainly hope the GOP will come back in VA! I think we got complacent. Personally I think Gilmore doesn’t have a chance at a Senate seat. Allen could win IMHO. My real worry is Mark Warner. He is electable (the moderates love him) and could use a Senate seat as a springboard to the national level. Another good candidate would be Randy Forbes, my congresscritter from 4th district - he is a reliable Reagan conservative.

Webb was demanding equal time in and out of theatre like some union boss. The emphasis on rotation should be one of the most controversial policies of the war. It is incoherent and has kept forces from developing good local contacts and a growing expertise.

Those who emphasize protecting the troops or keeping them safe and rotating them seem to have no sense of urgency about winning the fight or protecting the country. They have a peacetime way of looking at the military which should be safe and sound in its stateside bases and not putting too many miles on their vehicles. Polish those brass buttons for inspection. A congressman is coming.

I can presume you weren't in Arlington or Alexandria.

People who keep saying that Virginia is going blue just don't have the full picture. Virginia has ~always~ been purple. Yes, we've been solidly red for all but one Presidential election since 1948, but down state it has varied.

You are correct that we took a sharp turn right in the 90s. We took the General Assembly (which we still hold, if in name only on the Senate side). We have 8 out of 11 congresscritters. We still have one R (in name only) Senator, and we have two of the top three statewide offices - Attorney General and Lt. Governor.

We lost the Governor's races in 2001 and 2005 because our candidates were weak and because M. Warner and Kaine ran to the middle (and we let them).

The Allen campaign imploded for many reasons. But he was targeted by the left early on. And their compatriots in the MSM helped them out.

As for Allen's future, I'd be very surprised if he ran for the Senate again. I'm sure he's not next year.

Gilmore did himself a disservice by running for President. His lack of any showing was an embarassment. I don't know that he could be elected statewide again.
