The Chinese state oil giant, CNOOC, has won permission to search for oil in part of Somalia, underlining China's willingness to brave Africa's most volatile regions in its hunt for natural resources.
Somalia has been a no-go area for US oil companies since it descended into anarchy in the early 1990s. This year the capital, Mogadishu, has seen its worst violence in 16 years as insurgents seek to topple a fragile interim government.

If they can restore some order to that nest of Pirates, good on them. If they pump some oil that feeds their growing economy, double good on them.

You can bet your butt that the Chicoms will go into Somalia spreading the wealth around in bribes and have the PLA to protect them. We can’t do that. The liberals would have a hissy fit.
and just like the old USSR, the ChiComs will enjoy a considerable degree of protection from widespread understanding of how utterly ruthless they will be in retaliation if anyone does harm their people. We are far too likely to pander and beg when our people are kidnapped or killed - we need a lot more Teddy Roosevelt (as in dealing with that Moroccan bandit who kidnapped an American.
It will be interesting to watch the welcome the chi-coms get from the locals.
If the chi-coms get drug through the streets do you think they will cut and run like Clinton did?
I know what you mean about the USSR. I remember in the 80’s when some Russians were kidnapped in Lebanon and one of them was found dead. Somehow the Russians found out who the kidnappers were and kidnapped some relatives of the kidnappers and started sending the kidnapper’s fingers of their relatives. I guess it solved the problem. Few Russians were kidnapped when it was the Soviet Union. Our liberals would have a major hissy if we tried that. They had a hissy when our troops put panties on a terrorist head.
