Mosque stirs racial passion in Germany
While Muslims see a £20m building for Cologne as test of a nation's tolerance, critics fear the rise of a parallel, repressive society

This weekend the mosque is overcrowded, the cafe grubby, the social centre and offices scruffy and uncomfortable. Not for long, hopes Kilic Iqbal, 27, who works for the Turkish religious and cultural association that runs the complex. 'It will be beautiful, but much more too,' said Iqbal. 'The Muslims of Germany have been here 40 years, there are more than 120,000 in Cologne, it will show we are part of society.
'It' is Germany's biggest Islamic centre, to be built in a suburb of the cathedral city. Costing £20m, raised through bank loans and donations from 884 Muslim associations, its focal point will be a huge mosque complete with 183ft-high minarets, a glass dome and enough space for up to 4,000 worshippers. Next week the plans for the project will be finalised and submitted to the city council. But though almost every party has approved the project in theory, the construction is still controversial. 'People are scared,' said Fritz Schamma, the Christian Democrat mayor. 'But the mosque will be built, that's certain. For me it is self-evident that the Muslim community needs a prestigious place of worship.'
Not everyone is of the same opinion. Last week the mosque project hit the headlines again against the background of a major row over a government-organised conference of 'national integration', the main plank of Chancellor Angela Merkel's strategy to integrate Germany's 15 million immigrants. I’d always heard that Germany was really good about taking these muzzies in and (unlike the USA) turning them into productive Germans ... maybe I’m wrong?

I heard the same story, but I now think it is propaganda. My understanding was that the German/Muslim situation developed from a shortage of workers in Germany in the 60s/70s, and they imported many Turks on the theory that they were guest workers and not necessarily potential citizens. Then that changed.
Mo Atta spents lots of time with hospitable fellow Muslims in Hamburg. So I don’t buy the integrationist line any more. I was also told that Turkey’s Muslims were more secular and pro-western. I don’t think that is really the case. Turkey as a country may be pro-EU but there is definitely a resurgence of Muslim identity, not integration, in Germany.

Hopefully not, I do wonder at times if Socialist Europe has any survival instinct at all, meaning that the larger the Islamic Communities grow, the inevitable Islamofascist groups will grow as well.
Even “if” say 4% of a Islamic population supports Sharia and hard core Islam, the larger that community grows, the larger number that 4% will become.
and 4% is a very very low estimate, a poll in the Uk found almost 40% support for suicide bombers in the Islamic community.
Though most of Germany's Muslim population is of Turkish origin, islamofascists come in a slew of 'races,' from Arab to African to European to East Asian to Latin American (most of those in the West seem to be Arab or East African, however).

As always there will come a tipping point. The mega-mosques aren’t built yet. Once you see minarets dotting the skylines, the call to prayer replacing vesper bells, and openly Islamist political parties seeking power and trying to institute Sharia Law...there will be a push back. Things will quickly degenerate as rival groups, gangs and parties battle each other. Eventually you could see a full scale battle of civilizations on the steets of Europe. That is...if the precipitous European birthrate coupled with Muslim fertility and immigration don’t effectively supplant the European population altogether - conquest by breeding. Perhaps will see both.
Or, in the case of an enormous percentage of Muzzies, the lack thereof.
