WASHINGTON The Democratic-controlled House shrugged off another veto threat from President Bush in approving a measure requiring the withdraw U.S. troops by spring.
Earlier, Bush ruled out any change in war policy before September.
Democratic leaders engineered a 223-201passage of legislation requiring the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops to begin within 120 days, and to be completed by April 1, 2008. The measure envisions a limited residual force to train Iraqis, protect U.S. assets and fight Al Qaeda and other terrorists.
The vote generally followed party lines: 219 Democrats and four Republicans in favor, and 191 Republicans and 10 Democrats opposed.
"The report makes clear that not even the White House can conclude there has been significant progress," said Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
To Bush and others who seek more time for the administration's policy to work, she said, "We have already waited too long."
Republicans sided with Bush at least for now. The bill "undermines Gen. Petraeus, undermines the mission he has to make America and Iraq safe," said the House GOP leader, Rep. John Boehner of Ohio. "What we have here is not leadership, it's negligence."

There is no reasoning with these people
120 days of what, the Veto?
They are petulant and they are having a frenzy
This is useless posing for the moonbats.
1972...1968...1864...the “let’s get out of this war” strategy doesn’t win elections
Hello..those exact purposes is why we have the CURRENT number of troops there. Just shows how totally ignorant those in office are.
The liberals (from both sides of the isle) have done and are doing everything within their power to self-fulfill their own prophecy of Iraq becoming another Vietnam.
At no time in my life have I witnessed our own elected officials trying so hard to undermine the security, sovereignty, and integrity of the US as the current batch of traitors in office. From the infringement of our Freedom of Speech put forward in the "hate crimes" fiasco, to the blanket amnesty efforts, to the utter failure to control the borders, to this latest rehash of efforts to force our own defeat in the WOT... I am so utterly disgusted.
You can tell that SanFranGran Nan is reeeeeeeeally scared of that great anti-war hero Cindy Sheehan mustering an oppositional campaign....
Maybe Stretch Pelosi can point out exactly which part of the US Constitution gives them the authority to require this?
Of course that doesn't matter. It's all about perceptions and the high-feather-to-brain-ratio types who support Dems...
John Duncan (TN)
Jo Ann Emerson (MO)
Wayne Gilchrest (MD)
Walter Jones (NC)
Among the cowardly GOP abstainers:
Tom Tancredo (CO)
Ron Paul (TX)
I think it is much more simple : Democrats are traitors.
It’s really a moot point. The prez will veto it again and they don’t have the required majority to override the veto.
SSDD. Every single time the dims pull this it makes them look just that more desperate and pathetic.
Be prepared for the paulbots to defend this buffoon
I am just so sick of this stuff...
I doubt if there will be a national outcry, as we saw with the idiotic immigration bill fiasco, but I would just suggest that each member who voted for this âNational Suicideâ bill be provided with a revolver and instruction on how to on themselves, because that may well be what they are doing to themselves politically, and literally. But, I have a feeling that events will out pace the attempts by these invertebrates to lose a global war, and we will be faced again with the specter of massive terrorism in the homeland. Then comes the national outcry, the closing of the borders, and we will see the emergence of one who will seize the leadership helm in the Presidential pack. And it isnât going to be Hillary.
Whats with the everywhere an apostrophe or quotation mark is meant to appear?
Where can I find the record of the entire vote?
