But what if you want to do something like, oh, say, write something?!

Only way I can see that is if a keyboard is projected onto the screen, and one types directly onto the screen. Or maybe you can plug one in, like any other peripheral.

Though I'd get tired of hunching over a horizontal screen after awhile, I think.
