Vitter recently helped lead the conservative effort to kill the immigration "reform" bill. He also supports the Marriage Protection Amendment.

David Vitter appears to be a solid conservative in the Senate. Regardless of his mistakes in his personal life, we would be much better served if we did not throw him under the bus because of this.

No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. The important thing is that when we do screw up, we try to fix it, and not repeat the mistake, and hope for forgiveness from those that we hurt in the process.

In no way did I throw Vitter “under the bus.”

This is about a pattern of people supporting Rudy.

Vitter did not “come clean” with us, anymore than Jesse Jackson did. We only heard about this when he got busted.

Vitter has put his reputation on the line in his support of a Liberal for President. All this does is point out that perhaps that was a bit more of a gamble than we thought - betting on Vitter’s reputation.

Now the question is: do we INSTANTLY forgive and forget with Vitter?

I’m willing to forgive, but his endorsement of Rudy - added with this new revelation of frequenting prostitutes and covering it up from everyone even after “quitting” - is hardly winning my blind support of “Conservative hero,” Mr. Vitter.

With me, he’s kind of on probation.

But we do see a pattern emerging here, like it or not.

The important thing is that when we do screw up, and before we get caught, we try to fix it, and not repeat the mistake, and hope for forgiveness from those that we hurt in the process. We have a little more credibility that way.

After we're caught, it loses a bit in the sincerity department.

I agree.

We lost a senate race in Arkansas because the GOP nominee had (horrors!) a divorce. Newt’s a non-starter, and another good Pres possibility is out due to divorce (Owens).

The Democrats are gleeful to see this.
They get the hedonist vote anyway, and drug use (Obama), Infidelity (Clinton), multiple marriages and sexual harrassment (Dodd, Kennedy), etc. dont make their leaders unpopular.

These politicians are public servants, emphasis on servants. They serve us, so we ought not think of them as perfect, but as human beings. We need to expect them to have the standards of integrity and competence and character that we would want in good employee, but not expect perfection always.

Said elsewhere on the thread: “No one is saying that cheating on one’s spouse is not a serious character flaw. It is, but we must also understand that every now and then, even the best of people can give into temptation and do things they wouldn’t otherwise do. Everyone is susceptible to this, it is part of our human nature”

That’s about right. It would also be most important for him to get right with his wife on this, and for him not to lie about it (a la Clinton) or continue it.

“To Err is Human, To Forgive Divine”

Exactly, the man has asked his wife for forgiveness over this matter and we all act like its our business.

Let me say this. David Vitter is a fine, moral person and we love him in Jefferson Parish. If anyone wants a fight they will get it from us. I AM REMINDED, “let he who is without sin cast the first stone’ among other bible quotes on sin and sinners. He repented, which the bible says to do, he confessed and apologized to those he wronged. OK it’s done and over with. I heard hints of problems in his marriage and while back and hoped everything was worked out. I will stand by David Vitter and pray that the vultures will leave him alone. But, of course, they live on red meat so I can only pray!
