Well .. how about the FairTax? When are the politicians going to realize that the people just love this idea? Just this past Saturday Rudy Giuliani was jeered in Jacksonville, Florida when he tried to explain to a crowd his opposition to the FairTax. Then came the equivocating. Rudy said that he "had to study it some more." Gee ... ya think? Rudy also said that he didn't think the FairTax is realistic. And the present system is?
Then came the clincher: Rudy said that "our economy is dependent upon the way our tax system operates." So, in other words, a new tax system that would make the U.S. the world's number one tax haven; a tax system that would completely un-tax the poor; a tax system that would have every major business in the world looking for a way to locate operations in the United States; such a tax system would be bad for our economy?

Now ... here's a twist. This Associated Press story about Rudy being jeered in Jacksonville was run on at least two websites. Breitbart and MyWay. In the Breitbart version the headline is correct: "Giuliani Jeered for Opposing Fair Tax." In the MyWay version the headline reads; "Giuliani Jeered for Opposing Flat Tax." My Jacksonville contacts tell me that the Breitbart version of the story is correct. So why was the whole story changed in the MyWay/AP website version? Why the FairTax on Breitbart, and then a flat tax on the AP site. Anyone want to address that

Probably not. It’s not as if HR25 is so uncomplicated that a 12 year old could read it in 20 minutes and get it. /s
Methinks you underestimate both the ignorance and the liberal partisanship (highly correlated, BTW, IMHO) of your average AP journalist or editor.
There is too much prosperity and FREEDOM in a Fair Tax.
Much easier to control/manipulate segments of the population with a graduated tax system.
The Fair Tax would eliminate a great deal of a politico’s power, and the majority in D.C. are scared to death of the Fair Tax.
Exactly, which is why we need it. If you don't think they're in it for the power, one is hard-pressed to explain why you would spend $100 million for a job that pays $200,000. Personally, I'd accept either the Fair Tax or a flat tax of 17% like Friedman proposed. Either one would accomplish the same goals and, I think, a flat tax would be easier to administer. (I'm not too crazy about the "prebate" bureaucracy the Fair Tax would create, but it would still be a vast improvement.)
You put your finger on it. The power to reward friends and punish enemies by the tax system is the greatest power that the politicians have. They are NEVER going to relinquish that.
If the FairTax is revenue neutral (according to their website) what, again, is the benefit? Is it that the tax burden shifts even more to the wealthy? Is this why Steve Forbes backs it? He wants to pay more tax?
The FairTax changes the way the revenue is collected. There is no intrusion into one’s personal finances, it’s all done at the point of sale of new items. The simplicity is hard to overstate- I live in a state (FL) that’s funded by a sales tax and no income tax. HR25 would operate in much the same way.
Yes, I read their website. If you and Boortz are saying that this is primarily about it being simple, but not cheaper, do you really struggle that much to understand the current system? And, is Boortz so naiive to think that some kind of collection agency won’t be needed to police the sales tax payers?
Tell you what. I can explain the entire concept of HR25 in a couple of sentences. Can you do that with the current tax code? No.
List your income. Subtract the deductions and personal exemptions. Look up tax.

You know about the FairTax supporters showing up and dominating a Fred Thompson rally in SC a few weeks ago?
He was ‘surprised’ to say the least. Well over half of the attendees were FairTaxers.
We see action when people like you and me take it. The news industry is desperately ignoring it.

Shockingly dumb? It sounds as though you are involved in a wide variety of unusual transactions. Hmmm. Let me think. What you really don’t like is that the US govt. actually traps some part of all of this and you think your tax bill will go down. So, shifting the burden from you to us is the FairTax objective. Your remark belies a shockingly self-serving attitude, which is fine if you would just tell us the truth.
