MEXICO CITY (AFP) - Two armed men posing as tourists interested in snapping photos from a helicopter ditched their pilot Monday and stole the chopper, Mexican police said.

The suspects, who hired the helicopter at the airport in Atizapan, Mexico, instructed the pilot to take them to an isolated area for a photo shoot.

"When we got there, they told me to get out, so we could see where we were going to take the pictures. And then they pulled a gun on me, bound and gagged me, and left me there," pilot Eduardo Merito told Radio Formato 21.

The thieves, who apparently made a clean getaway in the chopper, were still being sought by authorities Monday

Yes, we need more Mexicans like this. They too can do the jobs Americans won’t do.

These guys were no dummies if they were able to fly the helicopter. Methinks, they are up to something. Did they say “allah ackbar” when they left?

Once again, no detailed description of the perps given.
I’ll bet dollars to donuts they aren’t a couple of blue-haired old ladies.

How tightly did they tie the pilot? I wonder what his cut was for the job?

Good point. They tie him up, and leave him in a remote area. How did he get loose? Or, who found him?

In the movie Turistas, illegal organ traders used helicopters to venture into the fringes of remote forested regions of Brazil to 'harvest' organs off of tourists on camping in these forests, and get the organs back to a storage facility. The helicopters were critical because the organs would perish rapidly, if slower means of transportation were used. Really scary movie.

Interesting. Thanks for posting. At least they didn’t use boxcutters. /sarcasm

How many time has this particular type of hijacking happened in the western hemisphere? What steps are immediately put in place to prevent this MO from happening again? Would there be any type of tracking device on the helicopter?
