However, a large percentage (20%?) of American Muslims have expressed approval of those who are killing innocents in the name of Islam. Some large mosques in the USA continue to host Imams who advocate hate and violence.

I personally do not believe it will change becuase while 99 percent are not making car bombs, I am willing to venture that 99 percent agree with the goals of the terrorists. The Koran dictates that they agree with it. Therefore, no change can occurr unless it is they change to reject the goals of the terrorists. But honestly you are comparing apples and oranges. If Jews were hellbent on ruling the world and converting everyone to their brand of religion I and most here would say the same about them as we are the Muslims. The few, and I do mean few, Muslims that do speak out against terrorism commited under the guise of Muslim beliefs are respected by myself and I am sure others too.
