WASHINGTON - In the face of stiffening insurgent resistance, U.S. and Iraqi security forces now control about half of Baghdad, the American commander overseeing operations said Friday.

Maj. Gen. Joseph F. Fil Jr., commander of Multi-National Division Baghdad, told reporters at the Pentagon that progress in securing the capital has been steady and that while he could use more U.S. troops he believes he has enough — with the recent arrival of reinforcements — to complete his mission.

“Some wonder: Are we progressing fast enough? Are we ahead? Are we on track?” he said in a video teleconference from his headquarters in Baghdad.

At this point we should either flatten the place or get out. This will go on forever. You can’t fight a war the war we are fighting it . Do it right or give up !.

I guess you didn't read the article.

The aim of the surge was to secure Baghdad.

And that's being done.

“We have many arrows in our quiver, and we are sharpening them,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

The b*tch is talking about Bush not our enemies. Why can’t the Dems, just once, focus on the people who are trying to kill our troops.

I read the article . You can’t fight people who have no uniforms or ID. The general public and the enemy are one and the same in many cases. This tit for tat back and forth will go on forever. The same guy who is your cab driver in the morning is blowing you up at night . Either you fight all out of get out. I though we learned that .

I do not think that Sun Tzu would call this a protracted war.

Bush’s judgment on immigration may be flawed, but his resolve on the war is awesome.

Funny, I thought that quote was from Patty Hearst.

History will proceed in Iraq whether we decide to stay or leave. We won't have any influence if we leave.
