Shoppers Seek Bomb Barriers in Baghdad
Strategy Page ^ | 2007 Jun 28

June 28, 2007: One of the worst side effects of the terror bombings in Baghdad, is that it makes people reluctant to go out and, more importantly, to shop. This hurts the economy, especially the retail trade. So the U.S. Army came up with a bold idea. They are setting up 1,800 concrete blast wall sections in one of the city's major market places. Some merchants objected, because the blast wall sections were tall enough to block a view of their shop. But they soon realized that they could put signs and posters on the blast wall blocks. It was also quickly noticed that customers were more abundant, and more relaxed. If the terrorists did bomb the market, the blast wall sections would greatly limit the damage. That was enough to bring out a lot of shoppers.

Some day in the future, they won't have to do this.

For now, I admire the Iraqis doing the best they can in a situation that Americans can't even imagine living with. They go on about their business under the most horrible of circumstances.

After three and a half years here, even I can't imagine what it's like to have to live with such threats in everyday life.

That's why it is so important that we keep the terrorists engaged on foreign soil, lest they decide to come to our own. The discovery in London early this morning is a perfect example of what can happen if we don't contain this.

Are you listening, born-again cut-and-runners?

Good morning Allegra,

As always... thanks for all that you do and GOD bless!

Many of us here signed on until the end... I shall never stop supporting the War and many of us are active in letting the traitors in DC know it! Stay safe and thank you and ALL of our heroes... for ALL that they do!

They're here now. 25 million illegal immigrants do more damage to the us than any rag head terrorists ever dreamed of doing. It is estimated that the kill about 13 Americans a day either from murder or traffic accidents. Their ninos cost tens of billions in government schools it costs hundreds of millions of dollars to house their criminals, They collect welfare and medicaid that are paid for by citizens just to name a few things.

Yes, I know. I am passionately against illegal immigration and have expressed this on other threads. I am also relieved about the cloture vote yesterday.

But this article isn't about illegal immigration, nor was my response.

The antiwarriors could care less. What happens to Iraq is is of no consequence.

War is bad. There is no good war or good consequences arising from war. War must be abolished..... That is the mindset

I don't dare what Code Pink and those other idiots think or what they care about.

I will keep expressing my opinion regardless of their agenda. There is another voice and another side and those who back down to the Code Pinkers and their ilk may as well surrender.

It depends on how you define terrorism. Which is more likely? death from Al Quaeda or death from an illegal Mexican? The answer being the Mexicans. The war in Iraq was won several years ago, but resources that could be used to close the border are being spent over there still. And besides I dislike the use of the phrase "cut and run" It is designed to evoke an emotional response rather than a reasoned one - and when someone relies on emotion rather than reason I suspect that he doesn't have a good reason.

Some day in the future WE may have to do this in our major cities. How long before Islamic fascists come to the USA. I predict when Hildebeast wins the Presidency and the Patriot Act is repealed along with GITMO and the RATS decide to handle it like a crime instead of a war.

The Democrats and other hand-wringers appear to be making their cases based on emotion, therefore, I find the "cut-and-run" tag appropriate.

I haven't heard a cut-and-runner demonstrate sound reasoning yet.

Precisely the point I made in my first post on this thread.

I don’t think so. I think its true Americans have lost their focus and want to move on and so things will continue worsening and moving towards an ignition point here. But before that I believe the next stage will be when the attacks by the jihadist begin really cranking up in Europe and as the Europeans regain their focus and will we will as well understanding that it may be soon to follow here.

The anti-war left doesn’t give a whit for those Iraqis trying to get it right. Disgustingly enough, based on Cambodia and Vietnam, I think they are secretly thrilled by the opportunity to vicariously participate in slaughter. They wish to be able to purge their enemies, and have the power of life and death.

You're sinking to their level.

Whatever.

I haven't forgotten your unprovoked personal insults from a couple of years ago, so your opinion really has no impact whatsoever on me.

We were noticing in the chow hall at lunchtime how the CNN reporters in London looked rather grim and figured it was probably because that car bomb didn't go off, so there wasn't any carnage to report.

I honestly think they dislike reporting success over terrorism stories.

You're entitled to your opinion.

I'm really too busy to wallow in negativity. But I sure see a lot of it here on FR.

When people start trying to be a part of the solution instead of simply criticizing those of us who try, then maybe I'll give all the doom-and-gloom posts some credence.
