Ask a gay person if they are willing to give up their way of life in exchange for being straight. The answer is usually a resounding 'no'. However, it is also a resounding admission that they have a choice.
I think you'd be surprised. It's all in the question asked and the type of person asked. A couple of homosexual acquaintances have told me flat out that they would rather have been born straight (have "straight" urges toward the opposite sex.) A lot of them see no way out, and resign themselves early on to what they are told (by the militant recruiters) is their lot in life.
You'd be more accurate saying: Ask a gay activist if they are willing to give up their lifestyle in exchange for being straight and get a resounding 'no.' Those who are honest enough to openly give you the truth will admit what a lonely, desperate, tortured existence it is. Who would choose that, given the choice?
