I am an American of German descent. What happened in WWI and II disgusted my family here. The society went nuts. Totally insane. In many ways, there is some vestiges of that madness still inside Europe today. Many German’s, who went through WWII, have no desire to confront what happened. Many still blame “the Allies” for the partition of Germany and don’t believe the Holocaust was anything out of the ordinary for the time. Read “Tiger’s in the Mud”, an account of a German tank commander. The author had many foul words about the US and British troops (he was mad that they would send in dive bombers rather than Sherman tanks to die under his 88mm), but rather little about the Nazi’s. Also, Bonhoffer, a personal hero of mine, is often viewed as a traitor. Not because he thought Hitler was evil (many at the time did) but because he actually tried to do something about it.

But before you start scorning them, take a close look at our own nation. We allow the slaughter and vivisection of millions of unborn children, and then ship the body parts off for study. Of course many are “against abortion personally”, but won’t do a dang thing to protest or fight the culture of death. We are in many ways, the same as those Germans in 1938. Yes, many know things are bad, and that the State is not working according to any sort of moral code, but most don’t really give a s#%t. Many care, but few really want to do anything. It is so easy to just go about our life, and pretend that someone else will take care of it. Just ignore it and go back to sleep. That is what happened to the German people in World War I and II. They went back to sleep, and awake to find themselves chained to an antichrist.

I had a nightmare once. I was before God, at the day of Judgment, and I realized that all the sins of others that I had condemned them for were the same ones I have grown very comfortable with myself. We need to remember that. Remember that because of the Fall we all have the stain of sin on our souls. We all have the capability to become the monsters of the Nazi era. In fact, this country is well on its way to doing just that.

All wise words. My now deceased FIL, who served on the Eastern Front and in North Africa also held a strong suspicions that the ‘blood lust’ was part of the make up.
And he held Germany to a higher standard due to the overall intelligence level they have. He was one happy camper when he went into the Brit’s bag.

Comparison of the abortion holocaust to the Shoah is a grand way to make leftists froth at the mouth: next time embryonic stem cell research comes up, compare it with the research of Joseph Mengle (which after all, did produce still-useful medical data about hypothermia), pointing out the common element of denying the humanity of the subjects.

Google "Bruno Dorfer" "Rainer Beck".

Dorfer and Beck were two deserters from the German navy, who were captured by the Dutch Resistance and handed over to the Canadians, who stuck them in a POW camp.

It seems the Allies had been allowing the Krauts to run their own little judicial system within the POW camps. When the top-ranking Kraut POW found out Dorfer and Beck were deserters, he asked for and received permission to court-martial them. So, they were tried and convicted by a German military court made up of POWs. Then the Canadians allowed the POWs to borrow rifles to carry out the executions under Canadian supervision. Five days after Germany had surrendered.

The real Holocaust deniers are the ones who think there is no comparison between the targeted killing of a specific group of people on a massive scale, and what happened in the Nazi concentration camps.

I just googled "Canada returned German deserters". That lead to a Wikipedia article on the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, the army regiment which had been in charge of the POW camp. That article mentioned the names Beck and "Dofor", a mispelling obvious to anyone with a passing familiarity with German names. After that, googling Beck Dorfer got to the rest.

One of the Google results is a page in a book on the Hitler youth, one of the thousands of books Google has been scanning in.

Good luck with your play. If you look through the Google output, you will see that there exists at least one dramatization based on this event already.

Thanks, our approach is the irony; One of the guys who was executed was half Jewish and in fact his mother was saved from a death camp by a German police officer who disobeyed his orders.
