“For some reason, when you put people next to reefs, they die,” said microbiologist Forest Rohwer of San Diego State University at a recent symposium at the American Museum of Natural History here.

A 2004 study found that 70 percent of the world’s reefs had been destroyed or were threatened

I wonder if he would be smart enough to see that sex with coral is not a good idea. Probably not. No wonder he stays drunk.

Herpes Virus Killing Coral Reefs

I'm waiting to hear that after years of those infected with Aids, after flushing their bodily fluids down the toilets, the ocean fish start getting this disease, or some type of strain of it, killing off all ocean life.

What a wonderful thought.

A 2004 study found that 70 percent of the world’s reefs had been destroyed or were threatened by global warming and other human activities.

And I thought reefs liked warm water...

So we’ll just start dumping Valtrex into the ocean and the reefs will have fewer outbreaks.

This is Lib quality science writing. The key trick is they wrote “Herpes Viruses” not “Human Herpes Viruses.” There are zillions of different viruses in the Herpes family of viruses and they are quite picky about which species they infect. There are at least 8 human ones and many more non-human ones. Even the ones that prefer monkeys as hosts rarely infect us. If they can’t readily cross that narrow evolutionary gap the ones that are infecting primitive invertebrates like coral certainly aren’t coming from any thing human, not even something as remotely human as spineless Senators.
